New Mexico State: Following Saturday’s 52-7 loss to Troy at home in Lac Cruces, New Mexico State stands 0-7 this season and is allowing just a hair under 50 points per game. Head coach Doug Martin, who received an extension through the 2017 season in February, won two games in each of his first two seasons at NMSU; but has now lost 17 straight games. Sounds like a recipe for a coaching change; but not so fast my friends…Athletic director Mario Moccia came out Sunday in full support of Martin. “Doug Martin is our head coach. No changes are going to be made. Doug Martin is going to be our coach next year.”

I've been on the NMSU campus a couple of times.  It's nice.  It seems like a nice school.  But...

...they need to cut out football altogether and just focus on basketball.  They've had a pretty solid basketball program over the years.  Football, never; and, they are in no way serious about it.

And become UTA?  I doubt they want to do that.  I do feel for them however.  It's a good school on a really pretty campus in the mountains.  It's just an extremely tough place to recruit to and being in the Belt doesn't help.

Are we talking about NMSU or UNT?...

They have  solid basketball and baseball programs. Both NMSU and Idaho would be best served by dropping football down a notch and moving to Big Sky Conference. Of course then we would not have programs to look down on.
