Dan McCarney, North Texas

Record this year: 0-5
Record at North Texas: 22-32
Possible replacements: Sonny Cumbie, Major Applewhite, Manny Diaz, Eric Morris

You don't get your ass-kicked 66-7 by a FCS school and live to tell about it. Not even at North Texas. Thus, Dan McCarney was relieved of his head coaching duties late Saturday. A rare miss from the Urban Meyer coaching tree.

This is probably never going to be an easy place to win. Texas high school football is still the best in the country, but the Mean Green have to make due with Texas, A&M's, and all too often SMU's and Rice's leftover recruits.

That being said, there are far worse jobs out there and someone will jump to take this opportunity.  It's more of a question of how high North Texas will attempt to reach in their search.

Out of curiosity, where IS an easy place to win? It's not UT or A&M or Notre Dame or USC. It's not even Alabama. I can't think of any place where it's easy. I takes hard work and a lot of it to win consistently at college football no matter where you are.

SMU and Rice's leftovers? Not hardly. We are bad in football and we haven't been able to recruit very well, but that statement is simply throwing jabs rather than writing an informative article about the situation.

Bull, this is a great job and many, many people want it! Shouldn't be hard to recruit to at all, we have great facilities, great location and good support. Sitting right in the middle of the best football in America. Boise State, yeah right, has to recruit California and all over the west coast. Saying North Texas is a tough sell is ridiculous, ton of players in our backyard; coaches have to get off their ass and reach out to every players that will listen. Recruiting is like fraternity rush, you have to go to them and be convincing, don't expect players to be calling you. Todd Dodge thought that,  he said, "hey, I'm the greatest high school coach in Texas ever, why should I have to reach out to recruits they should be calling me... It doesn't work that way!
