I can handle this team not winning a game the rest of the way out.  What I cannot handle is this team not trying and laying down dead, which is exactly what happened this past Saturday.  My plea is that you find a way to motivate these kids into playing hard and finding a way to give this fan base something to look forward to.  I have all the respect in the world for D-Mac as a man and as a coach, but he lost these players somewhere along the way.  Please find a way to have these kids enjoy the remainder of the season.  I want this program to succeed at a high level just like everyone else on this board, but don't let these kids lose their love of the game because in reality, that's all they have to play for at this point.  If you can manage that, I would also like to see D. Smith at quarterback, a more wide open offense, and maybe, just maybe some trick plays.  But for the love of God, please give us something to hold onto, some kind of hope for the future.

Mac lost his players after the coaching staff struggled to do their jobs. As a fan I was and still am forever thankful for what Mac did for us in 2013.

Mac was to stubborn to change his ways, he seemed to always ignore the total obvious the past couple years. And he put the nail in the coffin when he said that it was to hard recruit at North Texas. I am truly disappointed that RV has created this mess, and then created the most messy clean up in UNT athletic history.

I think we stand a better chance with Canales taking the reigns for the remainder of the year. I think he is under the spot light now, and if this gy knew what was best, he would definitely put in one freaking QB, leave him in there, and for all that is holy! start taking the steps to get us out of this QB curse we have been in for almost 2 years. D. Smith is the only guy I see that he has options with. Idc about his Southern Miss show, start him a freaking game and see how he does. It is absolutely ridiculous to throw him in there after McNulty.

Smith will stretch out the defense and we will look like a totally different offense. Now if our horrible defense will only respond.

We know they can be some what better. The SMU game definitely showed that they are a better secondary then what we have seen recently. We just need a better rhythm with our offense and defense. Our offense needs to start putting more points on the board to help motivate the defense.

You  most not have been following the Mean Green the last time Canales took over as interim back in 2010. To be totally up front about this topic, I was one of the people calling for RV to hire Canales after he led us to a 2-3 finish, and came within a few plays of upsetting Kansas State at Fouts (You can go look up my old posts on the subject).

Back in 2010, I had my concerns about the McCarney hire. He wasn't a name I was terribly familiar with, and I worried he would struggle to recruit Texas kids. I hung my hopes on his recommendation from Neinas and his defensive mind.

When Canales took over as interim coach, there was a real positive change in the team. They played a more exciting and explosive offense, and were much more competitive in games. I'm not expecting Canales to go out there on Thursday and upset WKU on national TV, but I think we will look more competitive and entertaining then we have all season. And, I believe the Mean Green now have a real chance to win 2 or 3 games out of the 7 left.

If, and it's a BIG if, Canales can really turn this thing around and win 5 of the remaining 7, which probably won't happen, then I say he will have earned a real shot at the head coaching job. I do believe Canales loves this program, university, and community. I have run into him around UNT and in town and he has always been very kind and willing to talk. A short 3 year deal, with a very small buy out, could always be renegotiated if he earns it.
