CUSA Fan Reaction to this Debacle

From Dan McCarney Fired off the CUSA Forum.

He wasn't fired... He effectively resigned minutes into the first quarter of today's game.

The AD Rick VillarreL should have fired at the same time. If I was the president of UNT I would have escorted both of them out of the stadium and off campus at halftime.

Good for UNT. The year before last it looked like he had something good going in Denton... It's unreal how much UNT has regressed since then. With the location and new stadium UNT should be able to attract a solid coach. Hopefully he doesn't have a big buyout.

I hope you guys can get rid of that mediocre AD as well.

UNT AD Rick Villareal should be fired too. Not only did he hire Dan McCarney, he also gave McCarney a brand new 5-yr deal just last year (March 2014). That was unbelieveably stupid. It's going to cost UNT a fortune to buy out McCarney's contract.

This could not be more true. AD's are often not good businessmen, and this decision is evident of that. People get too caught up in keeping coaches' salaries "competitive" with their peers and don't look at the realities. You had a 60-year old coach (would be 61 when the 2014 season started) to whom UNT decided to give a raise and a contract extension for five years. Why? Even if at the time it looked like he was turning things around at UNT where is he going to go? Was another FBS program going to hire a 60+ year-old coach to do a similar turnaround? Absolutely not.

What kind of contract buyout is there for your AD???

I think this just made me change my plans... think I will watch this one on TV ...not worth driving 11 hours, 750 miles, spend 2 nights in a hotel to see 2qts of football...then run out the clock.

This is very sad.

SU still has to play Montana State,at CalPoly,at Southern Utah, Montana and at Eastern Washington, they probably won't even win the Big Sky. 7 teams from the Big Sky ranked in top 27 of the FCS poll.

I don't know whether to feel ashamed for UNT Football or upset that Southern Miss didn't win last week by as much as Portland State is.....

its 52-0 versus an FCS to start the 3rd and you think there is a debate..portland needs one td to tie the most an fcs has ever scored on an fbs.. unt could score 3tds and it would still be the largest fbs/fcs blowout EVER!!!!

It's pretty apparent that both CUSA and the Sunbelt have 3-4 teams each that are, at best, mediocre FCS programs. I wish we could drop the dead weight from both and merge the conferences. But that's a conversation for another day...
