Team at crossroads

I have been to over 200 NT football games and I have never seen a team perform this bad.  McCarney was fired and the school got that right.   

However, it doesn't change the fact that the NT team has just turned in the most pathetic effort that I have ever witnessed.  Over the years, I have seen every kind of bad out of too many football teams, but never one who invested so little effort in playing the game.  Even as bad as Mac's recruiting has been, I doubt that Portland State had a talent edge.  What little emotion I saw on the sideline was unbelievably smiles and laughs.  

This team is short on experience and talent, but what I saw last night was a total absence of heart.  Football is a game played on emotion and maybe the team's give up last night was a function of a disastrous start of the year and displeasure with the coaching staff and hopefully an one time occurrence.   

The team now has a chance to redeem itself in the rest of the season.  I don't think many expect wins or even a win, but I do hope that NT fans never have to see another game so devoid of effort.   It is a fresh start for the team and I hope the team takes advantage of it.  Dodge's last team showed a lot of fire after his termination and actually played better, I hope this team does the same.
