Amazing how many times they outran our D. Even more disgusting were the TDs where the receiver was completely uncovered.

It's ok thought because our DC is now co-head coach so we are sure to improve, right? :rolls eyes:

I mentioned to someone in the stands that Demarcus had thrown 4 touchdown passes for a total of 7 points.   Our receivers really seem to get the dropsies when Demarcus throws the ball.  I really think they've become accustomed to passes that don't have much zip on them.

I can see his ball being hard to catch.  He throws it so hard I have been told you can hear it ripping out of his hand, which reminds me of Warren Moon.  Now, Moon threw a damn near perfect spiral, and Smiths ball has wobble to it.  If he could clean up that spiral he could probably throw it 70 yards in the air.

That ball is trucking at them faster than anything they have ever seen out of any other QB here, and it has a wobble,  no doubt its going to be hard to get used to.  Hopefully now they will have time in practice and games to get used to it.

Can anyone diagram the reaction after the TD catch by Harris? CH slams the ball into the turf without letting it go. MSmith comes up and gives CH a hug as does Tucker and all three just drop their heads and walk slowly back to the bench. Rentfro comes up to high five CH and CH doesn't acknowledge, as two other OL walk up, see the Rentfro interaction and retreat. And I don't think DSmith came over to CH after the TD toss either. I have never seen reaction to a TD like that and am not sure what I am seeing. No celebration, complete resignation and shame, it appears, and it was perfect. Fade to black.

I thought for sure that the highlights would be "The Eric Keena Show".

I think Smith's touchdown throw demonstrates his ability to buy time in the pocket. Most people considered him a dual threat coming in. For all accounts and purposes he is not. Everything I saw from his Butler JUCO tape was him using his feet to buy time while looking downfield. He was never gonna sprint away for a 70 yard touchdown. He's a thrower first and I like that. Under pressure he moves to find the open guy, which is what we need.

So the highlight reel was showing the sole touchdown pass by the third string quarterback, Mr. Inconsistency himself, three times from different angles.

I was thinking that if we would have had three more angles available on that play we could have stretched the highlights to 3 minutes.

Agree.  But it's hard to put any stock in this particular highlight.

First, and let me say, I'm a DaMarcus fan, but this was against backups... FCS backups at that.
Second, he was running around with the ball completely un-protected, begging for a fumble.   Gotta get that cleaned up while scrambling.

Did he not deliver those [two] passes fast, on the money, and with poise, all while keeping his feet moving?

I don't think he was being reckless, though I guess he could have tucked it. I appreciate he kept the ball up high around his chest when he recovered from the scramble, and then threw it on the move, and placed it well.

He sure did!

I'm just saying... we've seen this before.  Doing things in practice or against backups (FCS backups at that) is not going to be as easy when you're staring down WKU/Marshall's starters.

I think his stat line on Thursday will read something like 20/35 220 yds, 1 TD 2 INTs. Maybe a rush TD.

Not great but it's a start. Gotta let him make mistakes, and let him learn.
