3 million dollars!

SIAP, but wow! That is a lot of money from an extension that should've never happened. Let's make sure a coach can recruit, bring in and develop a QB, and win with his own signees before we extend him. Really the only exception to that should be if that coach is actually going to get hired away if we don't do so, which was not the case either here. Lesson learned the hard way. Again.

^ gets it.

Rv's 2013 decision cost 3 people a lot of money. What is their return on this going to be? If RV is still calling shots it will be minimal, at best. Tim MacMahon understands this. 3 people had to pony up a lot of cash for a very stupid and premature move by our tenured AD.

Kind of ironic that the total amount of the donations of those honored at half time is not substantially more than one bad decision by the AD cost NT.  Those gifts totaled $3.25m versus a buy out of approximately $3m per Vito.

This is one that RV won't survive long.

I'm thinking the president is using RV to do the cleanup, you know getting the coach's office swept and mopped, new locks on the doors, digging a  six foot deep Rick Hole out by the the big fans etc...

Use him as the hatchet man and then hit him with his own hatchet. Saw this a few years ago at a company i was working for. VP had the section manager come in at 5am and start walking night shift people out the door. Then the day shift started getting pink slips. The manager was on site for 14+ hours handing out layoff packages. He went back to his office at 7pm thinking the reduction was over. Guess who was waiting in his office? The VP walked him out that night....

All the more reason why RV should be let go.

And probably the reason he won't be.  We can't afford another buyout.

I'm not sure how these buyouts work but can't we just pay it in installments over a longer period of time so we can absorb it easier?  If the athletics program is in a much better shape financially than it was previously then 4 million in buyout money for 2 very important and critical roles doesn't seem that much.

From the announcements at halftime, all of the donations had already taken place. The donor were being honored for their past commitments to NT. Those guys might be donating to a buy out fund, but that's in addition to the money they already donated. And there won't be any announcements on who gave what to any buy out fund.

what?

Did you see what happened to the program after Fry rolled the dice with this program and lost?  We experienced some early success only to have the program end up in the toilet.  Have you seen what happened recently when we hired a Fry disciple?  Some early success only to end up in the toilet, and it appears it will cost us nearly $3 million to let him go.

In the end, was the short term success worth the long term repercussions?  Tough to say.

As frustrating as it is to see that money go up in flames, it's not Mac's fault that we were short-sighted enough to give him that contract. We are not good at structuring and negotiating contracts, and we're not very judicious in how we give extensions.

In any event... At least we don't have to worry about Coach Mac sitting next to the highway, holding a sign that says "Will Iowa For Food".

So I was under the impression there was only three years left on Mac contract how is that there is a three million buyout?  To start with his base 600K the rest he has to be here for. So that is 1.8 million?

Well plus what is left of this year

I predict the IowaIowaIowa con man will ride off into the Florida sunset unless we are somehow able to significantly reduce the buyout.

Surely we sue/threaten to sue for breach of contract in an effort to cut the buyout down. I would guess there is some dirty laundry that Mac would be willing to take less in exchange for not having to be drug through the mud.
