Simple facts are, (1) he did do well as interim H.C., and (2) other teams did want him.  To try to make a case by saying the opposite actually undermines your case.

To be clear your 1st fact is simply an opinion nothing more, far from fact. The 2nd all we really know is other teams talked to him and well that 5 years later after he proclaimed on live radio he would be a head coach somewhere, he is not.

Sounds a bit like Backup Quarterback Syndrome, or in this case Interim Coach Syndrome.

As interim the team beat Middle Tennessee  and  Western Kentucky of that a claim to fame is Middle Tennessee? My opinion of him doing well seems to be much different.

We will probably start with a clean slate.

I see 4 other games that Dodge coached that year that Canales' team could have won.

Maybe Rice and ULL but what are the other two games? Could Chico have kept Trent Deans' PAT from getting blocked against ULL? Would he have kept our top 3 qbs from getting hurt and being forced to play a scout team player against ASU and FIU?

You lost me when you downplayed his term as interim HC.  Literally, I cannot take your opinion of Canales seriously anymore.  There seems to be something else to this.

I disagree. Canales has been OC at a low level FBS team for 6 years now. Do you really think he is loyal to UNT? A better offer simply hasn't come along.

And that should tell us all something.

Outscored by 69 total that year, by 46 through the first four games.

We've been outscored by 113 through 4 games this year.

That must be some type of Lean Green record.  I'm going to look at the history.

Only two years are worse through the first 4 games.

2007 - outscored by 152

2008 - outscored by 164.

Hmmm, those were some lean years.  I somehow don't remember such a sense of despair back then as we have now.

Wow . . . and posted the week before a game with an FCS team.  We have to be lower now than at any point during the Dodge regime.

I honestly think this is the lowest point for this program since we came back to D1 and there have been some real lows.

In the past they complained about facilities, fan support, ect. They've gotten the facilities minus an indoor facility, people were going to games but that's questionable now that they embarrass themselves. The new president seems to want a great football team. There are zero excuses now. The AD and coaches have failed miserably.

If Mac  thought recruiting was a too hard for him before just wait when he's selling an 0-12 record. He needs to resign. The AD needs to be fired.

The craziest part is that the 2008 number was with an actual division 1 defensive coordinator and not a HS DC.

I don't have blind hatred I just don't have green colored glasses on, I don't like what he has done, I think he is a very weak OC, I don't think he could ever recruit, he can surely not prepare a QB. So you tell me what are his Strong Points? He can campaign for a coaching position well?

Either way we need to start with a Clean Slate.

We need new blood. Our culture of losing has to be totally eradicated. Scorched Earth Campaign. The product on field has been too bad for too long!

I'd take Lock the Gate at this point. We saw a difference in play when he took over for Teflon Todd. Maybe he can do the same. RV wont do it though.....

Such BS Canales sucks or he would be somewhere else by now.

Maybe he's tried, but Mac keeps him locked in his office.  We should sneak him a big ass poster of a woman?

The return of Riley Dodge and several other players, during our bye week, had MUCH more to do with the VERY limited success of Mike "What's a F150" Canales.

Canales never had an opportunity to go elsewhere, he removed his name from consideration after being told he was not going to be offered the position and ArkSt was never planning on offering him either.
