I've been following this for decades now, and I've never seen our defense so weak. I guess just about every aspect of our team other than Wilson and kicker/punters really sucks when you look at it. Depressing once again. Oh! AM hits!  Whatever.

Cosh isn't a miracle worker, he has a bunch of walking-wounded and out for seasons, and he has had to teach his system. I have - and will - refrain from criticizing him for a few more games. I think he is a proven commodity and actually deserves some slack.

With Mcnutly at QB and all the three and outs the defense has to be winded. The coaches gave up day one by making Mcnutly the QB so what message does that send the defense?

Proven commodity is debatable. He's had some big-time DC jobs, but he's been let go time and time again. That's a risk you run when you get a guy who has had a job at a big-time school. He hasn't done a good job. Plain and simple. But I can respect giving him time and the benefit of the doubt.

As for the injured excuse, I've said it before but the guys who are injured were former walkons. Like I said before, very good former walkons, and not average former walkons, but he's got all the signees to work with. The signees not being good enough is not his fault since he's new. So I think if you're going to make an excuse for him it should be on the coaches who recruited his defense, not on bad luck from injuries.

This defense flat sucks! Can't tackle ... can't cover ... horrible fundamentals. While I believe that talent is ultimately what wins games (or makes strong defenses), this defensive coordinator hasn't shown any ability to make adjustments or instill any confidence. Oh my god, we just scored!

Where the hell was he a proven commodity?  We found him as a LINE COACH AT BUFFALO!!!!!  Said it before... say it again.... Cosh was hired by one good old boy (Mac) to help out another good old boy (still Mac) who was helped out by being recommended by some rando 80 year good old boy (expert coaching search dude) and both are past their day.

He hasn't had a gig for over 3 years in one spot and many times has been demoted.

Other team's forums have shown their statistical lapses under his tenure.

Cosh sucks and wouldn't stand a chance in hell as a DC at a school higher than our level (bottom of the toilet DIV 1).

I have......

Through the first four weeks of Dodge's first year in '07 we were giving up 55 points a game.

We finished that season giving up 45 points a game.

and that was with a DC straight outta high school but we did average 17pts/game on offense, which is slightly above the 16.75 we are averaging this year.

So an inexperienced hs coach in his first season with a hs oc and a hs dc selling hopes and dreams while playing at Fouts averaged 17-55 against OU, SMU, FAU, and Arkansas, while an experienced coach with a national championship ring, with an experienced oc and dc averages 16.75-45 against SMU, Rice, Iowa, and Southern Miss, in year 5 while selling the best conference, facilities, and equipment we've ever had?? What a joke.

Can you imagine the point spread if this year's team played OU, FAU and Arkansas instead of Rice, Iowa, and Southern Miss?

I didn't like the Cosh hire from day 1.

Gotta say, I was there with you.  We saw him first hand in the last game ever at Fouts.  We torched his defense that day, which at the time was one of the 10 worst run defenses in the country.

poor defense of a poor defense. DMac is supposed to be a defensive minded coach yet he can not recruit worth a crap, year five and he has to use former walk-ons to compete as starters says more about the piss poor recruiting over the last 5 years

And this isn't the Dickey era, where he could legitimately complain about the fans, the alumni and the facilities. The fans are there - but they want to see a good product before they buy in. The students are amped about UNT more than ever. The facilities are easily there. McCarney and his staff just didn't seem to capitalize on it as much as needed. We've got good recruits at some positions, but the key positions haven't panned out. Either because they weren't really that great or because they weren't properly developed.

I was a little weary of this hire when it happened.  I didn't know much about Chris Cosh except that Maryland fans didn't seem too fond of him, USF fans didn't seem too fond of him, K-State fans didn't seem too fond of him...

Those fans were frustrated by his "bend don't break" style, which MG fans have referred to it as.  They criticized corners playing 7+ yards off receivers, which MG fans have done.  Doubted his ability to make in game adjustments.  All according to old forum posts during his time at one place or another.

In 1997, he was at Maryland, then in 1998 he is Nick Saban's DC at Michigan St. for a year then for some reason goes to South Carolina to be LB coach.  After a few years there, becoming DC (interim?) in the 2003 season, he goes to K-State to become LB coach.  2006, he is back at Maryland as DC/LB coach.  3 seasons there and then he's off to K-State for a few years before going to USF for one season as DC, then Buffalo, now here.

One way or another, something tells me this guy won't be here too long.

I personally think KP would have been better to promote to DC from within, but what do I know
