And there is this recommendation for resolving Iowa State's issues:

Go get North Texas' Dan McCarney. Now. For 2016. Seriously. The Clones haven't been the same since McCarney left in 2006 after leading Iowa State to five bowls in 12 seasons.

Listening to an old man reminiscing about Iowa to Texans. Is like a dude listening listening to a group of women talk about their favorite romance book on Bunco night......

It would be nice. If he left and RV were removed then a fresh start could happen. It's my understanding that the players are fed up with Mac and if it's true then it won't get better. Who can blame them? He's kind of crapped on them publicly several times. (They are small & weak. Or its too hard to recruit here. Translation: my players suck because I can't get the ones I want.)

Take my head coach ... please!

I wouldn't cry about it. Five years is enough time to build a base, and without immediate changes it's looking like that base isn't going to happen here in year five. There are just too many things not heading in the right direction around here.

Move McCarney to AD?

You know, that might be the best suggestion we could make at this point. Imagine him being able to go out and connect with the alumni and businesses to raise funds? You don't have to buy his contract out, but you instead you buy out RV. Then you go hire a new head coach--he probably won't get paid anywhere close to what Mac gets paid, especially with the buyout of RV, but that could still be ok if you got a rising FCS head coach that would love the opportunity to move upward.

Mac would probably be a pretty damn good AD--he knows how to glad-hand, motivate, and, is good at PR.ANd, evne better, he would never have to recruit again or run his 1970 offensive scheme anymore.
