We got there early about 10:30-11am and it was raining cats and dogs.  We sought refuge in the alumni building but found out they were having a private event.  We headed over to Sweetwater and had some lunch while watching other games.  Headed back once it cleared up.  The rain had a clear impact on attendance but like others said it was better than I expected.

How did you get back in after leaving to Sweetwater?  I considered similar action, but they'd already torn the stub off my parking pass.

Funny you mention the stub on the parking pass.  I got to the white lot (right in front of the athletic dept building)  at noon.  the parking guy motioned for me to go to my spot.  I rolled down the window and asked if he wanted the stub.  "They didn't tell us to take them" was the reply.

Rules ?  We don't need stinkin' rules.

Now, having said that, the wife unit asked for sunglasses about 30 seconds before kickoff.  I ran down 99 steps (counted them) to go back to the parking lot.  The lady told me if I left, I couldn't come back in.  I assured her that I would be back and except for the eye roll thing, I got back in without incident.

I think it was 19,607.

That is what I saw on Yahoo sports as well, but on TV it did not look anywhere close to 2/3rds full. It appeared to be less than a third full. But I only saw the 2nd half.

I explained to them that we couldn't tailgate due to the weather and the poor guys were getting pelted by rain already and waived me through.  As someone else posted, they did not take the bottom off of my parking ticket.  I also noticed there wasn't the typical nazi security coming and going from the seats.  I don't know if this was on purpose but it was appreciated given the fact it was a light crowd anyhow.

I never had my ticket scanned.  Not scanned to get into the stadium, not scanned to get into the club.  If I had been a more nefarious type, I could've brought any number of riff raff up to the monocle room.

We appreciated you dropping some of the crumb cakes down to us in the regular seats.  They were a little moist from the humidity but still quite tasty.

Why would the alumni pavilion host a private event on game day? Seems like that's when most alums would be around to visit it.

Party was over before the announced Pavilion opening time.  Harry arrived way before it was set to open to  alumni members and their guests.  The Pavilion is a great asset and the university, the Association and the Advancement folks are trying to find ways to use it for events other than just an hour or two before home football games.  Tough to have such a facility sit idle so much of the time.  And, even on game days, it is rarely over crowded. So, lots of thought going in on how to best and better use that great asset.  Pavilion is open to alums and their guests before every home game. It just doesn't open at 10:30am for pre-game activities.

It would seem that 2 1/2 - 3 hours before a game would not be way early.

Attendant at entrance to black lot off service did not want parking stub. Gates on west side were slow to open while it was raining, and with only two gates and perhaps some issues with scanners in the rain, we finally walked around to front gates. I though attendance was close to 20,000 during the first half, but close to 90% of students started the exodus shortly after halftime. If not for the daytime sun and heat, perhaps more would have stayed.
