I guess in my mind, I sort of  consider this game like our roadie at Indiana last year.  Big, physical Big 10 team, that has been down in the Big 10 (no shame) but usually takes care of business in lower non conference games.  I was impressed to see them beat Pitt.  They shot up in the Big Ten rankings after the Pitt game from #7 to #3 which is bad timing for us.  They are 3-0 for the first time since 2009.  Their QB CJ Beathard sounds like a good player as he was just named co-Big 10 player of the week.  He hails from Tennessee, 6-2, 205 and had an offer from Ole Miss.

Looks like they have 8 Texans on their roster:

On the bright side, we might see some young players or backup players like DaSmith after the game gets out of hand.

Not going to be pretty.

I seriously doubt Mac would pull McNulty unless he really stumbles as he is from Iowa City and will have a lot of friends and family there.

then mac is a pos and shouldn't be our coach...who cares about family and friends. He is paid to coach a team to win, not showcase players that are from the same state as the opposing team...eff that shiatt

Best thing read all day.

Copied from another thread where I threw it, but is probably more relevant here:

And next week, hometown hero Andrew McNulty goes back to Iowa City with a chip on his shoulder, hoping to take down the rather well-known and respected program that didn't give him a chance, coached by the guy who began his career there and then made a name for himself by taking them down when coaching a bunch of underdogs...a win there could be movie-worthy (well, maybe Hallmark Channel Movie of the Week worthy, but worthy nonetheless).  I'd love to see something amazing happen there next week, I really would, but my hope doesn't always mean that I'll get what I want.  Honestly, I'd like to see McNulty win there next week more than I'd like to see any of the other guys get a win there, period.  I just worry that it will end up as a dud and that my excitement will be wasted.

We might as well be a rag doll, because that is how they will toss us around.

McNulty's best chance for a good showing next Saturday is to get hurt in practice this week and miss the game.

The Iowa boys finally get a homecoming they've been wanting for a long time.  I'm expecting to see a game a lot like the opener at UT, last year.  Get in, get paid, & get out with no injuries....

So basically we are hoping for the same things as a prostitute.

Thoughts on Iowa?  I consider this my own personal bye week.

We lose.  Badly.  The Iowa coaching staff has to shut down their offense and put in their middle school recruits by the end of the second quarter.

Down by six touchdowns, we still run the ball up the middle.

Don't count on it, DMac almost never plays back-ups unless hand is forced

Also, @Harry, don't you think Iowa is less dangerous and more likely to overlook us at 3-0?  If they were 2-1 and angry about a loss this week, wouldn't next week be their revenge week?

I think we might see some different things this week. Maybe different plays, maybe different players. As much as each one of us wants to beat SMU, Mac wants to beat Iowa that bad. I think he will pull out all the stops to win this game but it will all be in vain. We should cover the spread though.

We should cover the spread though.

Opening line -- 26 1/2.  Whereas last week's paltry 6 point spread was the most stone cold bet the mortgage, kids' college funds, retirment plans, and take out as many payday loans as possible lock I've ever seen in my life, 26 1/2 points depends quite a bit on just how much Iowa wants to runs up the score.

I reviewed Harry's link to the Iowa roster. A quick scan shows that all of the Texas players, except one, come from our immediate area (mostly Collin and Denton Counties, saw one Dallas County). Looks like they just flew a recruiter into Dallas, set up camp in Allen, rented a car and took a few short drives. A couple of days' work and :pow: they reloaded the cupboard.

My thoughts...

1. UNT getting ran through a meat grinder this Saturday

2. Coach Mac praises McNulty after the game is over

3. GMG.com talks about which alcohol mixer will knock them out faster

4. We hear about Mac's win at Florida, or his days beating Iowa with Iowa State on the radio

I think Iowa is just the kind of P5 we should be playing on a yearly basis...sometimes at home.

They are a middle of the pack P5, but if you beat them you've beaten a name school and get some credibility.

That being said, I doubt we cover the spread on Saturday.
