The 420 Lab Band, chances gone up in smoke

Safety Schools aren't so bad.

I kinda sat there in stunned silence while their 13 band members ran about intentionally bumping into our players.

My kid asked me if they go about the country insulting every school the visit to which I had no answer.  Is this what they do?  Is it their bit?  Do we just expect it of them?

Yes, that is their modus operandi ....while they consider it clever, it was rather lame, I thought...maybe I don't have the mental capabilities to understand the MOB.  My nephew was in the MOB years ago--I'll ask him for more input.

Yes. The MOB insults every school but UNT got off easy. They save their best material for former SWC schools. Though last Bayou Bucket game 2 years ago they got booed off the field by UH fans not because we were insulted but because their performance sucked.

Yeah.  They've been doing it for years.  They are not a University-sponsored organization, rather a bunch of rag-tag students (and former students) who make fun of other schools' academics... because they can.

WWhat material do they use against, say Texas?

One part said something to the tune of...

"Hey there mom and dad...I'm writing to you as a new freshman student here at UNT...things are going well here so far...

..as it turns out though, me and the MOB have something in common...we both wish we were in Austin"

Then there was a jab at the tU athletic director that I couldn't make out.  But the chelloist in the MOB was hilarious.  You don't see a chelloist in a marching band very often.

Actually, Rick, I think I heard her say

"Hey there mom and dad...I'm writing to you as a new freshman student here at UNT...things are going well here so far...

The theme kinda tied into that "safety school" line. I think the tU athletic director line had to do with him being fired right after their game, and maybe, just maybe, they threw that in because some of them have been reading our board for material. JMO.

MOB is gonna MOB.  They are fun and usually worth a chuckle or groan.  It looked like they spelled out DUD when referring to Patterson.

I think their routine yesterday was probably modified from the one they trotted out at DKR the week before, though.

I can appreciate it in context. Caught completely unaware yesterday, i was stunned and confused

I'm right there with you. And I know Rice's enrollment is really small, but I graduated high school in a class of 49, and our school had a larger band than them.

I thought the announcer said she was embarassed to tell her friends what her dad did for a living.  I understood her to say her "DAD" (Rick V) was a "DUD."  Not an editorial here.  that's what I thought I heard her say/.

When we play these guys at Apogee in the future, I hope we can delay the Green Brigade getting on the field long enough that after the GB finishes, there isn't time for the non-marching rice  band to get onto the field.

green joe is correct. She was referring to RV while spelling out DUD. They must have read GMG for material.

The MOB is awesome. They and Stanford's scatter bands are great in my book.

The AD comments were in reference to Patterson. He priced out the MOB last week ticket/seats wise (like they did to us last year) to prevent them from coming. If you look at their social media they've been reveling in his termination.

And ya'll shouldn't take any offense to them. They're like the outgrowth of any fan bases' smack talk - akin to what you would see on this board or any other; they just have the balls to do it person and on others' turf.

I agree.  If the MOB take aim at you it is more of a compliment than anything.   Also, they were all clapping in appreciation of the Green Brigade.  Thay are jesters, and part of the fun.

I think the MOB are pretty funny. Back in the SWC days, at a home opener they had "The Annual Salute to the New Head Coach." At A&M they did something about peeing on Reveille. Uniforms used to be optional - wear as much or as little as you wanted, although I don't think even they ever tried fully nude. Biting satire is their specialty, often in comments by their announcer.

I was impressed by having a cello out there. It's easy to carry a violin, a cello and making sure the rod doesn't get stuck isn't easy!
