I don't post much, but with everybody talking of coaches and athletic directos getting fired, what would the group think of bringing Sonny Cumbie in from TCU as a head coach or maybe a offensive coordinator?  Just a thought

I like the idea of Cumbie or Applewhite, but the likely result would be them jumping at a P5 offer one, maybe two winning seasons in. Then again, two winning seasons is more than we've had in the last 10 years.

I'd love for that to happen just one time instead of paying off contracts of guys who failed.

Imagine, a P5 or a head coach having to pay US to leave...

At least they could get the ball rolling.  Momentum gained is always a good thing.

didn't he recently get suspended for recruiting violations?

I heard from my Baylor alum coworker that Baylor self reported and the 2 coaches were suspended a game or two.  It that's the worst a coach from Baylor has ever done, just call him "high character", bring him in as head coach and tell him he has to call his own plays the first year.  Hey, the Stephenville connection; isn't that what's hot lately?

Him coming here as offensive coordinator ain't happening, and Mac has what...5 years on his deal? Don't expect a new head coach anytime soon.

While I was happy about the 2013 season, I thought that the contract deal was very, very premature.

After the 2017 season, I'd imagine that we would be best served by hiring a head coach from the head coach at Sam Houston or at another strong program at that level in the state. You're going to need a guy who has shown he can win as a head coach at a level above high school, is motivated to move upward in the coaching ranks, and sees UNT as a place to step up and get FBS experience.

Major Applewhite, Kendal Briles, or Sonny Cumbie are all coaching at schools with great budgets and stadiums that get great opponents to recruit to. The jump down from their current or past schools to UNT would be a shock--just as it has been for McCarney. I am still 100% convinced that Mac thought he was getting a USF starter kit at UNT--instead he's learned that the advantages those other places have in place aren't here.

I'd look at the head coaches at FCS schools or SBC schools that have recruited well in Texas and would like a raise, both in conference/division levels and in talent to recruit. I'll say this, if its an SBC coach, you had better be prepared to pay better than powerhouses ULL and Arky State currently pay. If you can't or won't do that, you might as well just fold up shop an drop down to FCS again.

Posts like these show that we have lost hope....   So sad.

And, no matter how much we want it... nothing is going to change.  Not this season... not the next season.  We do not have that kind of athletic department.

There will be one change.   Chico the scapegoat will be gone by the end of the season.

Well, if they wait until the end of the season, then it's free!  Otherwise, it's a small buyout.

If they are going to ride the AM train to 0-12, then I guess it does not really matter if we let Canales stick around for the ride.

Whenever Mac is canned this guy BETTER receive a call from our NEW athletic director about the head coach vacancy...

Willie Fritz

He does have a very impressive resume and will keep piling on winning seasons at Georgia Southern. At 400K guaranteed annually how much would it take for another school, especially one with a tradition of "not winning so much" to lure him away? He may be waiting on a Hugh Freeze type call from an SEC / ACC school and unwilling to take that kind of risk.

And no, I am not on the Fire Mac bandwagon. I believe he has the ability to be an excellent coach. I really just want this quarterback folly over with.
