Something more depressing.

Dane Evans from Sanger throws for 427 yards...4 TD's 0 pics for Tulsa against Oklahoma yesterday...and we didn't want him.

Recruiting, or lack of has hurt this program.

I agree.

It does not really matter if he came here all we would do is Canales him and then he would be likely to fail also.

I honestly believe that DMac simply doesn't value the QB position and that the position isn't in his top 5 recruiting priorities.

Just unbelievably bull headed.

It wasn't enough, but I would take what I saw offensively today if we could limit the mistakes.  I am hopeful our defense gets their act together.  We would at least have a shot at winning 4 conference games, not that we would.

Disagree. Teams don't play mistake free football. It just doesn't happen on any level. You need to be able to win even with a few mistakes thrown in. We cannot win unless there are virtually none.

We go 2 wins this year and there isn't a chance in hell that I renew season tickets for next year.

Barring injury, I can guarantee we'll have a new starting quarterback next year.

The real problem is that no QB that can throw a ball more than 10 times a game will ever want to play here. This guy, as well as Bogenshutz at UTSA both play in offenses that allow them to throw the ball downfield more in one game than they would in a season here. They would throw lots of bubble screens and less than 5 yard passes, but that would be it. Seeing how 95% of Texas High Schools run the spread offense these days, where the QB make several throws and rarely gets hit hard, makes our offense look archaic--which it is.

And now for the really depressing news--its gonna be this way thru 2016  at a minimum, but even more likely thru 2017, when Mac will just have one year left to be bought out. And, then at that point, he gets replaced by another coach hired by #UNTADforlife...

Its just freaking depressing. Its like being here in 2008, after Rice crushed us 77-20, where they took off the entire 4th quarter. We were on our way to a miraculous 1 win season, and it was clear that Dodge was in over his head, but still would have 2 plus seasons left to go because we wouldn't buy out his $300k per year contract any earlier than with one season left to pay for. And that AD who hired Dodge and fired him was allowed to hire the next guy and as soon as Mac showed any decent sign of improvement, the AD extended him for the same amount of time that we hired him originally, just to look like he finally got a hire right in a revenue sport. Now, today, we are stuck--with a terrible offense, a terrible recruiting staff, and a terrible QB situation--and its here to stay for probably two more seasons beyond this one.

The change that will occur at some point this season is to remove Chico from OC duties, then let him go at the end of the season, since his contract will be up. He will be used as the sacrificial scapegoat--blamed for our QB woes, as well as the offense's lack of production. Don't buy it--he's trying to recruit QBs to play an offense that most recruits' granddads played. He's a hand in poor development and his off-the-field tests are just stupid if McNulty is the only one that gets a good grade on them. But make no mistake, this is all about Mac's archaic view of offensive football.

After 2016, the change will be at DC, where we will say that we need a new coordinator to come in and make the defense aggressive again. That will be your 2016 change.

Then, in 2017 at some point, we will fire Mac...and RV will hire yet another revenue sport head coach to a 5-year contract.

Rinse and repeat...to expect anything different is not to understand how things work around here. Dickey, Dodge, Mac, Benford, Shanice Stephens, and Mike Petersen...and the same guy who hired them or extended them is still in charge. Its just so typical North Texas logic toward sports, its not even funny...

Or RV resigns/retires by the end of 2016. Then we get another AD to come in and make a excellent new hire coach in 2017, then NT becomes the next Boise State program for years to come!

Nah... Who am I kidding, RV is here until the SMU and Army series is up. He hires another nincompoop as our head football coach come 2017, and we don't have another winning season until sometime in the 2020's decade.

Thus I repeat what you said... Its just so typical North Texas logic toward sports, its not even funny...

If we go 0-12, and nothing changes next year. And I mean anything (0-12 means an FCS loss!)..... I might have to take a break on UNT football for a bit. Like Rudy has been saying, it's a kick in the nuts each week..

Oh, but 1-11 with that 1 being vs a FCS team in this staffs 5th year will keep your interest?

How bad is it? We could definitely be 0 - 4 on October 10 and 0 - 5 on October 11.

I just checked the status of our Homecoming sacrificial lamb. They had a bye week this week after a 2 - 0 start with impressive wins over Washington State and Idaho State, both on the road. They have dates the next two weeks with lesser programs IMO so I expect them to come in here undefeated on October 10.

Beware the wolf in lamb's clothing!

Lets break this one Down just so everyone doesnt freak the F out over Portlandia State. Are they good? Maybe they are but I dont think we need to worry that much. I just want to break it all down from all the opponents PSU has played this year and who their opponents have played.

Week 1: Washington State- PSU beat WSU 24-17 in a come from behind win. The weather was an awesome rainy day mess but non the less, WSU got beat. WSU gave up 233 rushing yards to only 61 passing yards. The game was won in the trenches in this game but if you look at WSU stats through out the year they have given up about 181 yards a game on the ground and rank 90th in the Nation in rushing yards given up. You think WSU is some power house team but if you look at who they have beat this year, it makes you think if they are any good. WSU beat Rutgers the next week 37-34 in another game in which they gave up 200 yards rushing. Rutgers is currently 1-2 with a lonely win over Norfolk State so its not like WSU had a huge win here. This last Saturday WSU squared off against "Mighty" Wyoming who is 0-3 this year with losses against North Dakota, Eastern Michigan and now WSU so they are pretty awful themselves. In this game of powers, WSU was out gained in yards 409 to 378 in which WSU stepped it up on Rush D only to allow 113 in rushing yards but got crushed with 300 yards passing. In summary, WSU is garbage and they will be lucky to make it out of the PAC 12 with a conference win. WSU= Kansas of the Big 12.

Week 2: Idaho State...........Yeah, Idaho state who. In this game PSU out gained Idaho State 342-242 with only 106 yards passing but piled on the rushing yards with 236. The thing that really stuck out to me is that PSU was 26% on Third down. PSU won this game 34-14. 34 points, wow thats awesome but its against Idaho State. They kicked two field goals (51, 36) had a 94 yard kick return for a TD, and the rest were put in by their offense. Lets take a deeper look into Idaho state for a minute and see who they are. Idaho State is 1-2 with Lossses to PSU and then got drilled by Boise State 52-0. There lone win on the year is against some school out of South Dakota named Black Hills State in which they won 55-0.

In Conclusion: Portland State likes to run the ball a lot and will spread the wealth with the Rock. They have a back up QB that gets in there a lot and runs and has accumulated 112 yards on 19 carries and 2 TD's so this shows you that if we see #2 in the game he is running. Their #1 back is David Jones but only has 152 yards on 25 carries which breaks down to 6 YPC. The Starting QB, Alex Kuresa, has 193 yards which makes him their leading rusher/passer. He has 30 carries this year and also averages 6 YPC. This makes you think a little bit about their QB. How many of those 30 carries were designed runs and how many have been passing plays that have just not worked out. Kuresa has Thrown the ball less than 30 times for only 167 yards and 1 touchdown. I havent watched these guys play so I really dont have a leg to stand on other than going of their stats so take all this with a grain of salt.

- For the year they have converted 37% on 3rd down so if you get them on 3 and long the chance of them throwing for a first down are unlikely.

-They control the clock so in our case isnt a good thing because we have seen our defense tire out in the 3rd QTR the last two games. They controlled the ball for 34 minutes against ISU and then they were even with WSU at 30/30. Its almost like Coach Macs Dream Team, RUN THE BALL AND CONTROL THE CLOCK.

-Their line has given up 5 sacks in 2 games which is a good thing for us considering we have 7 through 2 games so that is something to watch on 3rd down and long situations.

This team by no means to be over looked like with any team but this team is no power house that is going to come in here and bulldoze us. We win this game if we control the line of scrimmage and make them throw the ball and we dont turn the dang ball over. My thoughts

Not really, I should have worded my post better. If we have one win against an FCS team this year. We are officially worse then 2014' s SMU.

I was referring to the offensive performance.  Other than the mistakes that ended drives, they looked about as good as I can remember since the 2013 season (granted, not saying a lot).  The defense on the other hand was turrable.

Harry posted in another thread.  #128 in 3rd down defense.  Not going to win much that way.

So we shouldn't be worried about Portland State JUST because they beat a PAC 12 team in their house?

What makes you think we would beat Washington State on NCAA '15 (provided they still made the franchise) ?

WSU is garbage and if you take a garbage team at the beginning of the year that still has rust on them, the chances of that garbage team losing is very high. All I am saying is that UNT will win Homecoming in the most luxurious way

Oh I knew you were, sorry I should have bolded the part I disagreed with instead of leaving the two points together.

My point was that the offense wasn't good enough because they cannot play mistake free football, no one can. So they need to be better than 10 points in the 4th quarter in two consecutive games with a couple of turnovers. The only way that works is is both our defense and special team are scoring points, which neither is doing.  That happened once in 5 years, 2013.

We are talking about whether or not we are going to beat an FCS team as our only win this season...

This is how bad it has gotten....

We really need to consider if FBS is the level we should compete at if this is where we stand right now. There cannot be another FBS team in the country that is asking this question.
