Was he warming up to play defense? We gave up 562 yards of total offense. Mcnulty threw for 303 yards and 2 TDs against 1 pick. Look at this situation rationally.

Mcnutly sets the tone. Offense; defense, and special teams feed off him. He is awful and only padded his stats with one lucky pass to Harris that was a wobbler. Carlos Harris made that play for McNulty. Otherwise he would have ad numbers.

Sorry billysee but you and I both know those numbers don't represent his play tonight. He was below average at best today and we should expect nothing more from him.

130 of those yards came when we had been down 4 scores. 93 on one play to Harris.

He played better, but he is still what he is.

Garbage time stats. Of course, it did get interesting at the end. And what happened when he needed to make critical throws on the last drive??? Damn near had a pick six on the visitor sideline, then a dropped pick in the middle of the field.

I'm not saying he's a good QB, or that the stats reflect accurately. Just saying I don't know how much more production a QB who can't leapfrog Greer on the depth chart would've given us. Dan Mccarney builds his teams to win games where we keep the score low. We've won 1 game in the Mccarney era where we gave up more than 30 points, and that was to Troy in his first year back in 2011.

In 2013, 24 points would've been enough to win 8 of the 9 games we won that year, plus that UTSA game. It's not good, but that's not where this defense needs to be to win games with the way this program has been built. 562 yards to Rice, and 31 points to an SMU team last week that hadn't scored 30 points in 16 games. We have problems at more positions than 1.

McNulty was average today- he actually looked above average on a few drives, but his overall play was very average.   The plays were definitely called to McNulty's skill set: quick 5-10 yard routes, and once Rice shut these down, McNulty struggled.  Remember, McNulty was playing against a below average Rice secondary.  The interception was not on McNulty, that one was on Harris.  I think Macs assessment of McNulty's performance today guarantees that he will start the next 4-6 games.

It is going to be a long season- I only see 2-3 winnable games:  Portland State, UTSA, UTEP

yes corner, let's see Marshall and Preston let's see if they unlike Davis AND Whitfield can keep a WR in front of them and break on the ball.

hard win the defense had to carry the load and stay in the field constantly. At least it seems like they did. I would like to see those numbers.

Mac said McNulty had a good game. I like Mac but I disagree with this.... He wil find every other excuse in the game to put the loss on other than the one true issue. McNulty!

Umm . . . I've been a critic of McNulty, and McNulty was not great.  But I'm not sure why anyone would put this loss entirely on him.  He didn't fumble that punt.  He helped drive the team to the 5 yard line or so before someone else fumbled.  He threw a pick; but to be fair, he had thrown the ball where only his guy could get it until his guy bumped it to a DB.

And we knew our D would have to force some turnovers or special teams would have to have some big plays to have a real chance to win.  Neither happened.

This one is not all, or even mostly, on McNulty.

No, it's on Mini-Mac. The throw was off target and Harris was diving to try and bail out his QB.
