They say that any publicity is good publicity.  That even an obituary can enhance the value of the estate.  However, somehow I think for North Texas to always be on or near such lists might not be a positive when students/instructors/donors consider North Texas.

No one would stand for North Texas to have a history department consistently ranked near the bottom of all college history departments in the nation.  If North Texas had a business or accounting program that was laughed at, heads would roll and those programs would get better.  Why is the same not true for athletics ?  And when I say athletics, I mean FB, BB, and WBB.  I want softball and volleyball and tennis to do well but those sports are not what make people plan their weekends months in advance.

For my money, the accounting department and it's requirement for a business degree could have been dropped.  None of my friends liked it and we certainly had better things to do with our time.

Because we don't care about winning in them, plain and simple...we never have, either.

We care about music, arts, and low cost tuition. That's why our Music Department is highly ranked in the country, that our arts school is top-notch, and we get ranked high in the country for being a top value.

I wish we did care about winning in the revenue sports--it would be a ton of fun to proudly talk about MG football and basketball to my Aggie, Longhorn, Sooner, Razorback, Horned Frog, Bear, and many other fans, but I can't. What's even worse is that when we win, I get a very token, "How about UNT winning this weekend? I saw yall won over one of those airport school in Florida or just killed that FCS team." When we lose, like we did to freaking SMU, if I get anything, its "That Chad Morris was just an awesome hire.", as if we don't even belong on the same field as SMU.

And nobody in UNT leadership even cares enough to enact changes to this mindset. Its as if they agree that we just don't belong on the same field as SMU, much less any other old SWC school, except for little ol' Rice. It really is just too bad...

This whole "all we care about is music" theme is getting old.

We have several departments on campus which are outstanding and go beyond arts and music. I would say what makes those departments outstanding isn't more "caring" from the administration but leadership and a history of excellence.

We've had two athletic directors over the past twenty-one years and our return to FBS. One was an obvious turd and the current one isn't exactly inspiring the masses.

I've said this for a long time and I'm sticking to it. When the day comes that we make a hire and that person does all the right things and still fails here then I'll blame our beloved university. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe any of our previous three presidents were a hindrance to athletics.

Stop pointing a disapproving finger at other departments on campus for athletic's failings. We don't get our ass kicked by the Arkansas States and Rices of the college football world because our music program rocks.

I've evolved on the music and arts thing...I don't blame us for lifting them up as the primary Windows to the university. It's what the strong majority wants. And presidents might want us to be a football factory, but the BOR controls that. I think it's rather obvious how they feel--or RV ain't still here.
