Yesterday afternoon before I headed back to Austin, I was listening to 103.3 and a host mentioned Texas and then the Texans and how he thinks that the Texans have the worst qb situation in all of Texas. The other host asked if he'd seen the NT/SMU game the night before and that North Texas had the worst qb situation in all of Texas. The first host replied, I don't even consider North Texas a division one team.

It is nice to know we have such a nice reputation in the Dallas radio market. I guess it isn't that bad though, we still have a pretty good reputation in Iowa, so we have that going for us, which is nice.

dallas sports talk blows...i listen to shows from other cities instead of dfw...that way, i don't get let down when the locals don't talk about our school and the stations actually talk sports.  nyc sports talk has been humorous today...gave props to dunbar on the final drives...

The guys on 103.3 are idiots for the most part. They drive the hype behind their own agenda. After last years game vs SMU I can only imagine that a peep wasn't said about the game. They are going to stick to their agenda no matter what. A lot of radio personalities need a really good slap across the face.

I also forgot to mention a Baylor fan at the hotel telling me about how he put $500 on SMU because of how they played them the week before. Said we scared him and that we were right there for three quarters but lower division teams like ours wear out in the 4th quarter because they don't have the depth. Said the same thing happened to SMU once Baylor's depth kicked in. I didn't really know what to say. We should've beaten SMU by 3 touchdowns but our HC is so damn stubborn that we lost.

You inform Mr. Jackwagon that our team is not a lower division team.  Like a Baylor fan should be downplaying another team's defense.   Sheesh.

The first bolded sentence is 100% fact. The second one is 100% opinion...as in 100% of the DFW SWC media feel this way.

But the reality is that is nobody's fault, but our own. That 1-AA drop permanently dropped us down or out of the minds of media and fans all across the state. Maybe we have given them something to ponder a different belief about us at certain times, but mostly, its just been us doing our thing. When we get blocked from joining the SWC club, we just quit. When we move back up to I-A in 1995, we do it on a shoestring budget, with a stadium expanded from glorified Reynolds Wrap, while getting slaughtered against almost every team that people care about around these parts. Today, we hire people for years and just wait until its considered affordable to replace them. It isn't any surprise that fans think we are a "lower division" team--that's how we portray ourselves to everyone not associated with UNT.

There's a reason that people know us for our renown music programs--its because we are great at them, better than anyone else in the state. Until we do something drastic to change people's minds in regards to athletics--like firing underperformers and hiring winners that people have heard of, instead of inexperienced assistant coaches or experienced losers, what we hear from these people will, deservedly, continue.
