Fire Canales yesterday! I expected a guy coaching for his job. Didn't get that. If it's McCarney that's the issue, he better change quick or its his butt too. What we saw on offense tonight is inexcusable.

Honestly I would rather they put Carlos Harris at QB.

Since we are going to run the ball anyways you might as well put an actual threat on the read option.  SMU knew damn well McNothing wasn't going to keep the ball.

 

Just wildcat it the whole time. Have Kidsy come in motion have Jimmerson and Wilson on each side of Carlos.  

Put Goree/Rutherford outside for possible mismatch/jump ball. And marcus Smith/Lynn out there to block and have a ton of misdirection.

It's bad when we put together any kind of offensive drive I'm pretty much in disbelief all the while hoping McNulty doesn't screw it up.

The funny thing is, it looked like Chico was guessing what would happen in certain alignments and formations, Morris would make our defense line up how he wanted based on his formation and motion, then run the ball or play back to where we just shifted or moved from. The dude is an offensive genius how we missed out on him and got Mac will ALWAYS be beyond me, no it won't. RV might be the most complacent AD we have/will ever have.

The Morris offense had scored 10 points through 3 quarters.

 

We had them in 3rd and 5 on both scoring drives in the 4th.  They converted on both.  The 50 yarder by Davis was an improvisation where we had three guys that missed a tackle that would have stopped him short of the 1st down.  Tough luck.  Great job by the D all night and then did not close the deal on 2 3rd downs late.

After the 2nd drive I turned to my buddy a told him all the "up tempo" crap we were fed over the offseason was really just a cover for dumbing the offense down even further to protect McNulty.

It was certainly 'uptempo', and it seemed like it put us in some good positions sometimes.  Poor execution and restrained playcalling due to a QB who cannot stretch the field definitely hurts though.

by the way...I haven't seen it mentioned...but was that special teams gaffe, the one where both gunners ran into one another and the ball popped up in the air and went for a touch-back...not the perfect metaphor for the SMU game...and perhaps the entire season?

I turned to my wife and said queue the Yakety Sax
