The thing about calling it the "Safeway Bowl" though, is that it's entirely one-sided.   UNT fans refer to it as such because one of our old coaches mentioned playing SMU in a Safeway parking lot.  It has no endearment for SMU.  So having a shopping cart trophy, or even just referring to it as "Safeway" anything only means anything to UNT fans.

If it's going to be a legit rivalry, it needs to be something meaningful to both schools.

Resurrecting this thread because I have put together a new logo for the Safeway Bowl. Graphic design is a bit of a hobby of mine, and I've had enough free time this week to turn this artwork out. I really enjoy the lore behind the Safeway parking lot comment from Matt Simon, so I hope I captured the essence of that here. Please enjoy, and GO MEAN GREEN!
