I am a North Texas grad. That is our rivalry. I hate SMU and always have.

If they were playing Russia State, I would root for Russia State to beat them by four touchdowns. The first question I ask Poppy every Saturday, ‘How’s SMU doing?’ The game I listened to last night. ‘How’s SMU doing?’ Well, they are getting their butts kicked up between their shoulder blades.That put a smile on my face.

I know the all-time series is way, way out of whack, but the last four are 2-2 and the last two times they came up here to Denton they got their butts kicked.

I know for you and your players who have never played them before, the series looks way out of whack, but ask anyone in green who they would like to beat more than anyone and they would say those chickens down there at SMU. They never played up here because they are too chicken to play us.

We finally got a 10-year series and that’s great because we can talk to them. They can talk to us.

We were never good enough to play in their conference. Their radio broadcast kicked our radio broadcast off The Ticket.

This game for me is personal. If you want me to talk to the players, I would be glad to because I can’t stand these suckers. For me it’s a rivalry.

There is even more to this story.  When we played them at Texas Stadium and they were the home team, they sent us tickets scattered in bunches throughout the stadium..would not let us sit as a block. One year they gave tickets away at Jack in the Box and then criticized us for not selling out our block of tickets.  One time we played them at their site in basketball and were told before the game that our cheerleaders were not allowed on their floor.  One time they called us to ask how many season tickets we had sold and laughed at us when we gave them the number...the beat goes on.

Does anyone know the story about how we lost The Ticket as our broadcast partner?

I hate SMU. Always will and like Jub Jub I want them to lose every game. 

I liked most of Mac's presser but to go on and on about the series being lopsided irked me. I could care less about games 40+ years ago. While watching the highlights of last year's game they were so pathetic I almost felt sorry for them until I remembered it was SMU.

I heard it boiled down to money.  SMU just out bid us for it.  They have huge pockets.

One time they called us to ask how many season tickets we had sold and laughed at us when we gave them the number...

Well I mean I can't really blame them for this one.  We're so embarrassed that we refuse to release the number and the fans have to find out via CUSA reports on UAB.

Well, the thing that irked me about the call from SMU that day was that we did not even play them that year, so it was fairly irrelevant to them, other than an opportunity to laugh at us...as you may remember, we were I-AA at a the time (1984) and season ticket sales were very puny. No one really wanted the I-AA status that Al Hurley forced us into, so season ticket numbers were low.
