And he's the reigning B1G POY.   Asking why he didn't come to UNT is akin to asking why Heard didn't come here either.

I must have missed that part.  I only heard Mac mention the 1, 2, 3 ranking, but not the 'distant 3rd w/o a grasp of the offense' part.  Maybe you embellished a bit?

I have no doubt that Smith has the stronger arm.  However, playing QB at the D1 level is about more than who has the strongest arm.  I really don't see why that concept is so hard  to grasp, but clearly it is.  Hopefully, Smith can continue to learn and show he is capable of running the offense and will be ready if his name is called.

I guess the exact was that he is a long ways behind by missing the spring, but Mac gave the distinct impression that he would not be seen on Sat. Unless the game is out of hand one way or the other. What I may have embellished is the fact that the reason he missed spring is that he was too stupid to qualify.

Why in the Hell didn't he come here? Doesn't he know he could lead us to a C-USA championship, waaaaa wonder if he could pick up our offense? Give me a break. Mac better win this year, I find it VERY hard to believe Smith isn't clearly the best QB on our roster.

I love reading this line from posters on here. Exactly why does he have to win this year? He has finished 1 year out of 5 on his new $650k per year contract, the largest the university has ever paid to a coach. If there was ever a year that he didn't have to win--its this year and next year. His buyout is just too much for the university to accept.

Look at Tony Benford--the basketball attendance is about half of what it was in the good times under JJ, the W/L record has certain gone down hill, yet a buyout of $325k per year was deemed too much. It didn't matter that 1200 people show up for a game against FAU in the last couple of years. We could go 0-12 this year and Mac is totally safe, even if we got about 2500 for a game in the last week or two of the season at Apogee. I suspect that it would take him having a year next year of 1 win or under to possibly get fired after the third year of his contract, but I after watching Todd Dodge get a 4th year here after winning 5 games in his first 3 seasons, while making about $275k a year, it wouldn't surprise me to see Mac get a 4th year under that hypothetical.

We want them to win this year and every year, as fans--the players and coaches do too, for sure. But its a lot easier to coach knowing that you have years left before your seat gets hot--the only way a seat has ever gotten hot for a football coach or mens basketball coach here is if his contract is expiring within a year or less.

There was sarcasm there....I am not dumb, I know a guy of his talent would never come to UNT.  Oh wait, if we gave him the reigns for the next 3 years maybe he would want to play.  Long shot, sure.  Anyway.  I hope like hell that MiniMac proves me wrong over and over this year because I have 0 faith that he is a D1 level QB

You guys say that Smith hasn't had time to learn the offense in three weeks but also profess that McNulty has somehow gotten much better in the 3 weeks of fall camp. This is a redshirt senior that has the same offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach he has had his entire career. This is the same quarterback we were disappointed by in the spring game. How can you believe that after 4 seasons of not being a D1 quarterback that the light somehow flipped on in the last 3 weeks?

Verdict: McNulty is clearly no better than last year.
