I finally got around to listening to the podcast. I was astonished that RV doubled down on the Tulsa lie unsolicited. That is what led me to this post.

First, lets examine what RV said about that Tulsa series and what is actually true:

Rv said we had played one game of that series before we entered CUSA. That is a lie. The first game that was scheduled to be played was in 2013, our first year in CUSA with Tulsa, thus voiding the series. This isn't a misspeak. This is a lie.

Now, lets look at that Tulsa series. Lets say we were scheduled to play at Tulsa in 2013 with alternating 3 years after that. That would have put us on the road at Tulsa in 2015, so...

But lets say we were scheduled to play the first game of that series at UNT. That means we would have been at Tulsa in 2015. But that also means that Tulsa would have been at UNT in 2014. Guess who didn't play at UNT in 2014 and still managed a 6 home game schedule? That would be the Tulsa Hurricane (OOC home games against Oklahoma and Texas St.). They had a year less time yet still managed to fill UNT's spot on the schedule. BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT LEGITIMATE FBS ATHLETIC DIRECTORS DO!

Some may say "but 90, Tulsa knew they were leaving the conference and adjusted accordingly. How could RV have anticipated this?" To that question I would answer: How could he NOT have anticipated this? SMU and Houston had left the year before. There was speculation all over the place about who would leave after the 2013 season. Is RV really THAT complacent?

There are many reasons we should be moving on from this AD, this is but one. He will say anything to justify HIS failures.

The most telling comment on scheduling was when RV said that UNT "has to beg and beg for a series" with teams like SMU. That tells me EVERYTHING I need to know about his negotiating skills.

Waiting impatiently for a new era,

He won't find them on your posts about NT.

I don't care about the source as long as he finds them somewhere.

Also of note is that we "are in discussions" with Memphis for a home and home. I'm guessing that will start in 2921?

Remember the comment.

You have a problem. Nobody is happy over this. Like, there was no need to "deconstruct" it. Move on. What was the point? Did you think we would find some magical realization from your brilliant intelligence?

Dude. Move. On. If you have a problem, speak with your wallet. Whining on GMG does nothing.

RV re-issued this lie unsolicited in the podcast. New members may actually make the mistake of believing what he says on this subject. If he hadn't of doubled down on the lie, I wouldn't have posted deconstructing the lie. He also lied about other things basketball related. See Tasty's post on that subject. And you know these are lies, because the inaccuracies ALWAYS favor RV. That's not a mistake.

A lot of people are speaking with their wallet. I have spoken by contributing the bare minimum to keep my club seats, which took me until the first week of August to decide to do.

It was also sad hearing RV talk about a couple of million dollar donations. That should be the norm here, not the exception. It shouldn't be something to brag about.

I don't think RV blamed Tulsa for 5 games directly in this podcast, but it was heavily implied. IF he's still trying to claim CUSA membership and the Tulsa series for the 5 game season this year... Here's a timeline of why that's nonsense.

We have a max of 4 OOC games each year. If you sign contracts on 3 road games, then you know you can't have a 6 game home schedule (8 game conference schedule, 4 home, 4 away).

We've known since at least June of 2008 that we'd be playing on the road at SMU in 2015.

We've known since at least July of 2009 that we'd play a road game at Iowa in 2015.

We've known since at least July of 2010 that WE moved the Tennessee road game to 2015 (to open at home for Apogee's first year, even though we opened on the road at FIU anyway).

At that point, it was NOT POSSIBLE to have a 6 game home schedule in 2015. We were already locked in to 7 road games, out of a 12 game maximum regular season schedule

We joined CUSA in May of 2012, invalidating the Tulsa OOC series. But, all that meant was that Tulsa would no longer be our FIFTH home game in 2015. It had no impact whatsoever (and couldn't have, due to the three contracts known of in 08, 09, and 10) on us having or not having a 6th home game this year.

Now, again... RV didn't blame the Tulsa series (directly) for a 5 game home schedule in the podcast. He just brought up Tulsa when the subject of a 5 game season was mentioned, without directly tying the two together.

BUT, he has done so in the past, like this writeup from Vito from back in February of this year. Money quote:

“It is and always has been our intention to play six home games and not play more than one guarantee game. Unfortunately when we joined Conference USA the Tulsa contracts we had signed for home openers in both 2013 and 2015 were no longer viable. We immediately began to try and find replacements which we did by inking Idaho for 2013 because of the WAC folding. Unfortunately 2015 was not as easy as others were waiting to see what would happen next. The conference shifts again in 2013 further complicated the matter. In fact there is at least one team still looking for a home game this fall. Per our scheduling philosophy we have secured six home games for the next four years already and are working to finish out 2020 and 2021.”

There's no need for a JFK conspiracy timeline. We knew for at least 2 years before the Tulsa contract got voided that we couldn't and wouldn't have more than 5 home games in 2015. This has been inevitable for half a decade, and we didn't do anything to fix it.

The alternative would have been two money games in 2011, and a 5 game schedule for the opening year of Apogee. There was a 2003 contract with Alabama specifying day and date for 2011, so this was inevitable.

The honest way to deal with it would be for RV to publicly admit he knew what he was doing, and he traded a 2011 5 game schedule for a 2015 5 game schedule. Or, to avoid signing the Iowa contract while the potential rescheduling of the Tennessee game was still up in the air. Or, to move the Tennessee game to a future year without a guarantee game booked, and then to NOT book a 2nd guarantee game for that year.

It isn't your intention to play 6 home games when you knowingly sign and/or renegotiate contracts that guarantee 7 road games. Saying it's your intention is nonsense.

A couple million dollar donations are to be applauded around here.  Like it or not, before RV arrived there were few, if any, to even talk about.  He isn't perfect, but you can't deny the positive changes since the man arrived in Denton.

Your constant bitching on here is ridiculous.  Take it up with the BOR or Smastrek.

thank you for adding the timeline of when games were signed. My limited internet skills prevented finding them. The Tulsa timeline just shows the ridiculousness of these statements.

Not that it matters, but I think he clearly said Tulsa was the culprit again in this podcast by saying several FBS schools got caught in the conference shake up (bullshit), and then saying that the Tulsa series being voided is what caused 5 home games. He was asked a simple question by Harry about future schedules, not past schedules, so he made sure to reissue an obvious lie that he knows we know is a lie.

I mean, it was a podcast to members of this message board, for cripes sake.

Its like he's saying "I know I'm lying, you know I'm lying, but there is nothing that anyone is ever going to do about it."

Quite the nerve, honestly.

what is ridiculous is an AD that just makes up stories out of thin air to cover his caboose.

If you call positive change one winning football season in the last 10, then, I guess?

We have 35k students, over 100k alums in the Dallas area. Million dollar donations should be the norm, not the exception.

The positive changes regard Conference alignment, facilities, donations, etc...  All that were significantly worse when he first arrived. Like I said, he isn't perfect but he has done some very nice things for UNT. Of course, you don't acknowledge this looking through shit color glasses all the time.

I know it's" just an expression", but I wonder if we can all expunge "he/she isn't perfect" from future discussions/assessments about anyone associated with the program.......especially us.

RV is given credit for tailgating, which is true. But cancelling a ridiculous policy comes under the category of no brainier rather than grand vision.

The initial facilities upgrade got started (or maybe got finished) with a big donation from Mattress Mac. Who donated the money because he like D.D., not R.V.

It is generally believed that RV wanted to fire Dickey at the beginning of the first conference championship run, but someone in power wouldn't allow it. As a result their relationship had to be (at best) barely cordial until Dickey was fired. At the very least it was a very unhealthy situation for the program. Could this be the main source of Dickey's "bunker mentality"?

The stadium was built under RV's tenure, but it was the SGA that got the funding source to get it built, not RV.

With a few exceptions, RV's hires have been less than perfect....if not down right disastrous.

And finally, since the beginning of his tenure until now, there have been (according to Cerebus) 76,000 potential customers that have come through the campus and received their degrees and we only have about 900 MGC members. And this doesn't even address the issue of the tremendous population growth in Denton County with all of those potential new customers during the same time frame.

My point exactly.  Some nice things have happened under his watch and some things have not been done well.  I just find it funny that many place all of the failures at his feet yet do not give him any credit for the successes under his tenure.

There were several AMAZING feats of architecture under the rule of Caligula.

Just sayin...
