So I guess for the first time in my life, I'll be regularly attending high school football games.  First, one question:

How does the penalty for defensive pass interference work.  I saw the foul committed thirteen yards from scrimmage, and they put the ball on the spot of the foul.  This got me to thinking that maybe high school works like the NFL on that.  But then I get home, and best I can find is that in high school, it's a fifteen yard penalty.  Is it perhaps the lesser of spot foul or fifteen yards?

Now some observations:

The announcer for Lewisville is funny.  He made two remarks that @FirefightnRick would appreciate:

"Out at CrackAllen Stadium, the score is....."

"In other district scores, The University of Allen leads....."

I didn't know high school was allowed to do that!

The players are tiny and slow compared to the players in FBS.

Both teams had a couple good players on each side of the ball upon whom they heavily relied.  The other players bordered on hapless when it came to execution.

Now I understand why UNT could never kick the ball off in bounds during the dark years.  Seems a rampant issue in high school.

You want pageantry?  Boy howdy does high school got it!  I do think, however, that the state of Texas seems to have legislated that high school dancers must all dress like Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl from Toy Story 2. (Their band wore full uniforms.  Ours wore khakis and t-shirts.  Ohhhh the embarrassment!)

The lighting sucks.  I struggled to keep up with a lot of plays between distance from the field, angle from the bleachers, and the supermarket-level lighting on the field.

I am openly heavily critical of the time and resources the school makes my kid pay to marching band, but I've got to say that those high school football games give ALL students opportunity to take on a role, own it, be responsible for it, and execute it.  This is definitely something my high school lacked.

Finally, this 43-year-old ass was barely capable of standing after spending however much time on those aluminum bleachers.  I'm gonna need to bring in the stadium seats next time.

Welcome to Fighting Farmer Friday Night Football @oldguystudent!! Buy one of the stadium seats the Booster Club sells, well worth the investment! You need to sit by the rope/chain dividing the season ticket seats from the General Admission seats.

Yeah, I gotta show up earlier to get those seats.  It's still busy season, so I got home pretty late last night relative to game time.

Fat cat used to club level comfort.

Suck it up.

Works the same as in college, spot foul inside 15 yards, 15 yard penalty outside of 15 yards.
