Kid should have told that old man to STFU... But he probably should have been throwing those dumbass starfish the opposite direction cuz they were stupid enough to get out of the ocean.  Dumbass starfish.

the professors I've had in the economics department have often brought up UNT football. (Weird to think it was economics of all departments...) One of my professors was so amped for the Texas game last season. He always pushed games. However, I do agree the majority do not mention games and often reference their undergrad university.

I bet you're talking about Dr.Neiswadomy (sp?). During "Pop" quiz time, the bonus question during football season was usually "Who is UNT playing this Saturday?".   He was an aTm grad and loved ragging on the Whorns. He was my favorite Econ professor, by far.

The kid should have checked to see if they were an invasive species or were in unusual abundance. Don't you care about the environment!?

I believe lots of profs in the College of Business support the Mean Green.  In fact one, Tom Klammer, just recently was mentioned as having made the largest ever donation to Mean Green Athletics in the history of the school's internal giving campaign.

edit:  If I am not mistaken, Tom Klammer, made that donation this year as a retired prof as well.

Marcia Staff was also a good business professor and fan of the Mean Green.

One day , Ben Gooding was walking along the muddy field in front of the Super Pit, contemplating his time at UNT. When he looked back at UNT sports, he realized he was walking alone, with just one set of muddy foot prints behind him. He then saw RV walking toward him--BG said "Why when I look back on my time here, when we usually sucked at revenue sports because of poor leadership and budget, why do I just see only one set of footprints? When I needed a lift to keep telling everyone that would listen how great this place could be, I was essentially on my own?"  RV looked at him, sadly, and said, "Dear BG, when you walked by the Super Pit, in the mud, I was going to come help you. But then I got a call from the AD at Tarleton State about a ten-year series, so I had to leave you by yourself." BG looked him in the eye, tears forming, and screamed "STFU"...RV laughed as he got another extension from the BOR and headed off to visit flyonthewall's tailgate before the big Portland State game to rub elbows with all 6 of the big money donors he had created in the last 15 years as the AD.

From everything we heard on the podcast tonight with RV, as well as other well placed sources... this may well be one of the best away game crowds we have had in a long time (perhaps ever?)... 26 student busses, the ENTIRE band, the ENTIRE drill team, cheerleaders etc...

I know some were disappointed with how last year turned out (or started?) but I would ask that you reconsider your position on attending this SMU game.  It will be a great game atmosphere.

In a weird way, the frustration we all had about opening the college season with a bye may play into providing even more interest and support for the SMU game than we might have had otherwise.  gmg

I need to go back and relisten.  I think RV said we could have around 5K students, and then said maybe 15K total for us just as someone started to ask a different question.   Again, I need to go back for a second listen.

Here comes the old coot bring up ancient history to this discussion. I've brought this up several times, but here it goes again.

When Hayden Fry was hired as HC & AD, one of the first things he did was call a town meeting on campus (it was not the main auditorium but the main performance hall in the school of music) and invited everyone in the North Texas community to attend. He then shared his assessment of the school (he called NT a great institution of higher learning) and then he shared his vision for the athletic program and encouraged everyone to be a part of his vision. He then took questions from the audience. I don't remember one snarky question from anyone and the whole program was very well received.

Now I don't know if there is a similar gathering of teaching staff at North Texas every year where the President presents some sort of "state of the University" speech. But if there is, that would be a great opportunity for Coach Mac and RV to get up and invite everyone to be part of the program. And while they're up there they could share with them the same academic stats about all the athletic teams, like they did with the NT faithful this last Thursday.

Prez Smatresk gives his yearly State of the University address on September 16th.

That's pretty good. Had me actually laughing out loud.

Believe it or not, Ben, you're a good sport. I enjoy the banter. You keep up the good work--and I mean that, seriously.

Just understand that decades of wanting more from our football and basketball teams than our leadership has wanted really does beat you down. If you are fortunate enough to see things completely turn around and we become what you believe we can, you better enjoy it fully--the alumni over the last 35 years sure haven't been as fortunate...
