Football season is nigh upon us

It's been a rather contentious summer here on gmg.com

How much money do you give?

How much should the students pay?

What shade of green should we wear?

How shitty is the schedule?

Love RV?

Hate RV?

How 'bout those new uniforms?

Lots of infighting going on.

It reminds me of a job I took back in 2004. My regional manager and I didn't get along...at all...for the first year. I couldn't stand how aggressive she was. She thought I was unorganized and "Maverick." But that first year, we blew out our sales goals and got HUGE bonuses. Even then, we were still at each others' throats. Then, one day, we sat down for lunch and talked. We realized that while we took very, very different paths, we still aspired to reach the same destination. She ended up becoming one of my closest friends and greatest confidantes until her untimely death at the age of 40.

We here in the Mean Green Nation all really do aspire to the same things. We want success for our school, our athletic program, our students. But we all see different paths to get there. That doesn't mean we're not ultimately all on the same team.

Come September 12th, I will be there, sitting in the endzones of the popped collared pits of hell, wearing green, shouting my ass off, watching my Mean Green kick the holy living crap out of Trust Fund U. You'll be there too. And we'll high five. And we'll hoop and we'll holler.

End of the day, we're all Mean Green.
