Beating the Mini Mac drum is fine so long as he shows dramatic improvement on the game field. If he fails to do that then the season is certain to go downtown flames and the coaches are sure to hear about it.

The top guys want Andrew in there,” Canales said. “They ask to throw extra balls and work on things. They are focusing on how to play together. That has mended the bridge that was broken. It’s fixed now. We are rolling.

Oh!  Well, there you go then.

Quote in this morning's DAMN from SMU Coach Chad Morris " When you step on that field you are going to have to kill us to beat us"!!!  Wasn't boot camp's slogan for UNT "Hunt,Kill,Eat"? SMU says they have hit more this fall than in the last 5 years combined. This will be a very PHYSICAL GAME.

So, after Baylor kills them on 9-5, does that mean they are done for the year?

If Smith can't do this, then we're in big trouble.

Chico's paper test strikes again.

I don't think it's a comment on any of the other QBs, but rather a comment on McNulty's improvement as a QB since last year. As in, last year he couldn't do that.

If you don't know what your pass pro is (or your run blocking) and you're left with a free defender, then you're gonna scramble or lose yards on a run. That happened a lot last year.

Just gotta give Smith some time.

You know, if this is what they are putting all their focus and hopes on, then the O-line better make sure that the worst thing a defense does to AM is hurt is feelings with the occasional insult.

I thought McNulty could do that last year... hence McCarney & Chico liked him better than Greer/Dajon... but that was the only thing he could do.
His execution of pass plays were crap-shoots.

Pre-snap checking is great.  Your QB definitely needs to know how to do that and call the better play if there is one.  But it's of greater importance to actually execute the play.  (Of course, if he's checking to Mr. Wilson, it's all good).

Correction: he will have to check out of a run because you know that's what will be called on 1st down. (And 2nd and maybe even 3rd)

I think on all passing plays or PAs they should run all boots and we should be good B-)

Get McNulty out of the pocket and we see a decent passer.

If he reads pressure in the middle, check to an outside run.
If he reads pressure from the outsides, check to an inside run.
If the ball is in Wilson's hands, it's all good.  I think, if he stays healthy and Jimmy doesn't take too many carries from him this season, he has a good chance of getting close to Dunbar's career record, Jamario's #3 spot in the top 5 would definitely be in trouble.

That severely limits what you can do in the passing game and really turns it into concept based stuff

From what I have been told, they are doing more of a numbered check, so if you have more than 6 in the box, its a pass check, if theres 5 in the box you run. Or something similar.

I was mostly being facetious. Mostly.

lol dang internet, and not being able to tell peoples intentions, touche you got me.

Well,
I guess we should be looking for a bunch of pass checks this year... likely to bubble screens on the outside?  We know we're not going deep w/McNulty, and unless they've improved their chemistry over the offseason, we know he can't consistently hit Marcus Smith on a seam.

I think it's telling that the receivers are really coming on.  IMO, that was a big part of the issue last year.  Needed more playmakers out there.

I agree. I am gratified that both they and Mac have put in so much work this summer. I sincerely hope it pays

off. I guess we will know in a month or so.

typically it is a quick read, so if your corner is off you run a hitch/stop, if they're pressed up or within 5 yards you run a go.  Or you send in two plays and the check just puts you in the run or pass whichever is the better one as determined by your numbers.

If Mcnulty can show improvement on the field he'll have my full support. If, if, if.

The moment he starts making bad decisions along with poor throws and it costs us a game then he's gotta go.

I don't mind it that much. What I really want to see happen is for DS to establish himself as the clear #2 so he is ready to step in if AM falters.

Mat this point, barring injury, it looks like AM is going to get his chance. Hope he nails it, but if not, let's have a plan B.

This is a very valid post as AM has had injury issues in the past.  It happens to the best of them at this level.  i would still see Josh Greer being the #2 guy in the forseeable future.  Had DaMarcus been here in the spring it might have been a different story.
