I hear an argument a lot that if I'm not a religious person, then how can I have a moral compass?  The only minor point on that with which I'll even remotely agree is that I tend to not hold anything sacred or above jest.  This includes, but most certainly is not limited to the institution where I earned a degree.

Lots of talk in the eagle's nest about the coddling of the American mind and hyper sensitivities.  People are quick to jump on that bandwagon, mocking the very notion of it all, until it is their own sensitivity that they feel is attacked.

I think the mug is funny.  I thought it was funny enough that I purchased one and gave it to a friend as a gift.  I have zero remorse and apologize to nobody for doing so.  In no way do I feel it lessens my support for the university.

Nothing you have said, is in the least surprising and that is the problem.  If you want to defend using a word that many find very offensive and insulting to a lot of females, then by all means continue.  Just don't expect many above the potty mouth stage, to think it is funny.

The recipient of the gift was a 42-year-old woman who thought it so funny, she immediately took it to show her 70-year-old mother, who howled in laughter.

Sometimes, maybe we want others to be offended at the sames things we are to validate our own cookie cutter views of the molds into which we believe people should fit.

I've struggled quite a bit in this piece of the world because I've never fit the meta-societal mold expected of me.  Doesn't matter.  Not going to change who I am because it makes you or anybody else more comfortable.

I hope you're having a wonderful Sunday afternoon surrounded by like-minded friends and family.  I'll do likewise.  Then, come September, we'll cheer for the same team, ok?

Actually, I am not offended at all.  I have walked down a lot of middle school halls and heard much worse.  So if you want to cast this as you, free spirited rebel against humorless conformist go ahead.   I still don't find it funny at all, and wonder about any adult that does.

Not sure where all of this came from based on one person's negative response.

As olguy already stated, there are negative responses every time this gets reposted.

Okay, I found this thread now (mentioned in another)...and really?  Didn't Tasty or CBL have it as their avatar for like 3 years?  And similar to the follow-up post to this one from OGS^, I showed my wife and she thought it was hilarious too.  If you're easily offended, then avert your eyes.  For everyone with a less sensitive sense of humor, it's fine.

Guys, let's not all turn into frothing SJWs at every joke. Jeez.

It's not even that.  It seems more like an avoidance strategy...and an attempt to turn everyone into...I dunno, "humor possums" sounds about right.

CBL's sig picture is what led me to look up to see  if that mug actually existed.

As for humor possum, not sure that's the correct animal.  I'm going with:

Incidentally, I hear tell there was great consternation as to the impending call letters of the school radio station when the name changed from North Texas St. to University of North Texas.

I also heard that they went so far as to print up some promotional materials, such as bumper stickers and such, before realizing what a terrible idea it was.  So apparently, there are a few that weren't destroyed and are out "there" somewhere, wherever "there" may be.

I know at least once back in the late 70s a newscast ended with "From K*NT news, I'm XYZ." The DJ started a record but was laughing so hard he didn't kill the feed from the newsroom. The newscaster looked around at those of us in the newsroom laughing and said into what she thought was a dead mike - but wasn't - "Oh my God, did I just say c*nt on the air." The rule about turning off your mike before doing ANYTHING after a newscast was "re-emphasized."

I was one of those that started a NTSU and graduated from UNT.  This definitely was a topic of conversation and knee slappin'.   We were all kids at the time.   Ah youth.
