Ivery looking for space in UNT backfield

When sizing up the North Texas running game heading into the 2015 season, it’s easy to focus on 2014 starter Antoinne Jimmerson and Jeffrey Wilson, the Mean Green’s rising star at running back. That’s OK with Willy Ivery. The sophomore played only sparingly last season and has yet to crack the two-tier depth chart. It’s the flashes of dynamic speed and playmaking ability Ivery has shown in limited action that indicate he could be a lot more than just a backup buried in the depths of UNT’s roster this fall. “Nobody overlooks Willy,” Wilson said. “If you come to practice, you can see that he has respect. If you don’t respect him, he’s going to make sure that you start respecting him. Willy is a great back. As soon as he came in, we knew he would be a game changer. He has great speed and is going to be a great addition.” Ivery broke off a 20-yard run in UNT’s spring game, when he led the White team that consisted mostly of backups with 70 rushing yards. - See more at: http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/sports-headlines/20150813-football-ivery-looking-for-space-in-unt-backfield.ece#sthash.ReMAw4Rm.dpuf

Returning starter Andrew McNulty is still solidly at the top of the depth chart with Josh Greer sitting second, followed by Connor Means and Smith.

“DaMarcus has moved up to the same line with Connor Means on the third team and is doing a good job,” McCarney said. “Andy Mac is No. 1 right now, Josh is 2 and Connor and DaMarcus are on the third team. DaMarcus has made some plays. It’s happening really fast for him right now. It will slow down. He has talent.”

This is absolutely maddening that Smith is #4. I know we dont see everything that goes on from practice and we only see select videos of these kids throwing the football but damn. If he has talent, then throw him in the #2 spot to get him reps because we all know Greer sure as hell doesnt have any talent.

Great write up on Ivery!!

Great write up on Ivery!!

keep in mind, Chico's QB exams are a big piece of the depth chart and playing time.

I have always been curious to what these Chico exams consist of. Is it connecting the dots or coloring with in the lines? What is it?

he gives them game situations and pictures of how a defense lines up and has the QB's give what their calls are based on different plays and alignment.  It was on some of the beyond the green episodes.
