Since we are discussing and cussin scheduling, Wisconsin in 2019, etc., a ran across this little nugget of info(may already be known by some on this board.

Boise State plays ULL in 2016 at Lafayette, La

Boise State has a one and one with Troy beginning 2017

Boise State plays a one and one with UTEP beginning 2021

Boise State has a one and one with Rice beginning 2023

Obvious to me that Boise State was looking for some games out in our general direction.  Recruiting purposes I suppose.  Wonder if they contacted our crack Athletic Dept staff for a one and one with UNT?  And we said "no thank you"?  And I might add, out of ULL, Troy, UTEP, and Rice, to my knowledge, UNT was the only university that had any history with Boise State from the old Big West days.  It would have been a natural to have a one and one with Boise State.

Lord I would be swinging from the rafters for a Boise State team coming in here.

If Rick can't get little ole Boise in here what makes you think that Rick can get Tech in here?

And dont give me that crap line that we played tech in 2001.. that game was played September 22nd. Rick became the AD earlier that year in April. I can almost guarantee you that he did not schedule that game..  it is however kind of funny that we have not played them since Ricks tenure began.

Coinsedenc you ask??? I dunno maybe just end of contract??

Scheduling is THE WORST thing this AD does, including hiring.

Considering that his tenure includes hiring such coaching luminaries as Dodge, Shanice, Peterson, and Benford that's a very hot sports opinion.

I'm thinking Tech was annoyed by our habit of winning in Lubbock.

You cannot schedule someone like that when you already have your two series for OOC tied up for as long as Army and SMU are on our schedule. Unless you want a 5 game schedule from time to time, which is fine with me if it means that we don't play an FCS team at home just to get to 6 home games, a new home-and-home series in OOC play cannot get scheduled as long as we play the bodybag game every year, which we will always do. I'd take a five game home schedule every other year if it meant that the one OOC home game was against a better opponent, like Boise State, BYU, Air Force, or UH, just as examples. But that cannot happen until the 2020s, which is a long time for us to wait around to see who else we can schedule for home-and-home series.

Why do we have to play an FCS team with SMU and Army series? I get the 5 home game deal, but why cant we just schedule another FBS OOC to make a 6th home game?

Let's say, for instance, you wanted to bring <fill-in-the-blank-MWC-team> in here this year instead of Portland St.
UNT is charging Iowa ~$800k to play there.  (I don't really know the number.)
<fill-in-the-blank-MWC-team>  would likely charge somewhere in the same neighborhood (since they're also an FBS team roughly on the same scale as North Texas) ...or more.

So now, the money is a wash (or worse, you balance negatively between the two), and you have problems funding the athletic department.  May as well have scheduled another home/home and hoped for the best.

Instead, we get Portland St in here for something like ~$300k, so (in this hypothetical) we're net-profiting ~$500k!  That's plenty of money to help fund the golf, swimming/diving, track, etc... teams.

Sad reality, but that's where we're at.
