I completely agree, but what if Gretchen Bataille and the BOR said to RV, "Absolutely no way we are using any funds for that kind of buyout"?

Buy outs rarely work that way.  Either big money donors contact the AD or vice versa, and the AD says: "We want to hire a new coach, but we need xx ADDITIONAL dollars to do that."  Generally you don't raid existing funds to buy out a coach.  A possible exception is if there is a projected revenue decrease (reduced ticket sales, donations, etc) that exceeds the cost of the buy out.

Ultimately, everything can be blamed on the BOR or the person who appointed them.  However, I do wonder were all that extra money is supposed to come from.

The guy who watched over the worst accounting fiasco that a university in Texas has ever had to admit...and yet didn't get punished, admonished, or even his wrists slapped by the BOR, who instead looked at all of this and EXTENDED his contract.

He must have the College of Music as aprimary beneficiary of his estate...or he holds pictures of the BOR members in questionable "positions"

Yep, same dude that thought it wise to move the system offices away from the flagship university.

Group 1:

UT System = Austin

A&M System = College Station

Texas Tech System = Lubbock

Group 2:

UNT System ≠ Denton

Texas State System ≠ San Marcos

UH System ≠ Houston

 

I think Lee Jackson moved us to the wrong group.
