The Paul Hornung Award, now in its sixth year, is named for the former Flaget High School, Notre Dame and NFL great who won the 1956 Heisman Trophy. Players can be added to the watch list during the season. A panel of college football experts selects players for the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll based on performance each week.

A national selection committee of 16 sports journalists and former NFL players votes for the Hornung Award finalists and the winner, with fan voting comprising the 17th vote.

The winner will be honored at a banquet at the Galt House Hotel in February. Last year's winner was two-way Washington star Shaq Thompson, a linebacker and running back.
