This link will take you to the most recent UNT System Board of Regent meeting notes from May 21-22.  There is a ton of info in there which is interesting if you have time.  There is some specific information in regards to athletics on the following pages:

Pgs. 432-434  UNT is moving their plans from building a new golf practice facility from Trophy Club to Honors Golf Club in Carrollton.

Pg 435 -437  Info on Mike Petersen's departure and Jalie Mitchell's contract

Pg 442 -- 447 with photos - Deals with authorization for the new Central Path Extension at Clark Park (1.5 million) which appears to be a pedestrian walkway which goes from Avenue C to a crossing at Maple (which will require funding from City of Denton).  I mention this because it actually might help foot traffic from some of the campus dorms and buildings over to the Super Pit and the pedestrian bridge leading to Apogee.

NT is going to work with the City of Denton on something? Well, it might be several years before anything happens then as the CoD doesn't have a good track record on getting things done in a hurry.

Yes I thought that as well.  You look at every successful University out there and you find a solid partnership with the city in which it resides.

Denton City Council currently considering funding a bridge to nowhere.

Ave C is very busy and very dangerous street to cross.  A pedestrian bridge, if used, would hopefully make it safer for everyone.

Maybe the heads that be don't want to be in limbo with UNT, but someone is in cahoots with developing. For those of you who don't get to Denton much, for the last 2-3 weeks there have been 6-8 bulldozers in the large field across from the Wal-Mart/Sams on University. From what I have been told there is a movie theater being put in there and a relatively large, domesticated outdoor strip mall. The Dentonites may not like seeing this, but there is development going on in the city of Denton whether the town folk likes it or not. For the last 8-9 months they have also been working on expanding University from I35 down to the Kroger to 6 lanes. It looks like University is about a year away from being another Loop 288. Along with the I35 expansion of itself moving from 4 to 6 lanes from Corinth up to and through Denton. The metroplex is almost fully in Denton and I like it. It breeds opportunity for UNT and in the long run it will help the university. It may not feel like a small time, "college town" much longer, but there are always cons with pros.

this idea of "anti-growth" Denton needs to be treated like the blind, old family dog and taken out into the yard and shot (or, at least starved until it runs away. like Ray).

Denton has grown immensely over the last decade, but it has done so selectively and with an eye toward maintaining the aesthetic that makes it an appealing place. city planners have always viewed the south 288 area and university as the corridors for corporate development (what the hell is a "domesticated outdoor strip mall"?)...while both the citizenry and the city leadership has demanded the downtown square and the UNT area remain predominantly a collection of unique, locally-owned establishments. in part, because of this vision, Denton has a thriving music/arts/cultural community...the long-term benefits of which far out-weigh myopically taking a few million to raze the courthouse and build a wal-mart.

now if they would just take a power washer to the whole place. You can be unique and clean at the same time.
