I do have that other alma mater that I enjoy following.  They don't have football, but they've been kicking ass and taking name in several other sports over the past few years.  However, if you wanna talk about an athletic department being filled with a bunch of (inset creative profane adjective here) jerks, those guys take the grand prize.  I've never sent them a dime.

My Dad's family all went to either Ole Miss or Mississippi State.  I planned to go to Ole Miss and then life happened.  I'd like to schedule either 1 for 1.  My son was in the Corps of Cadets and Texas A&M.  He was one of the Mascot Corporals so we got to know Reveille VII.  The word tradition was coined at TAMU.  I also like Texas but I'd love to beat them some day.

One daughter graduated TCU so I have a casual attachment to the Frogs.  It is amazing what TCU has accomplished since the demise of the SWC.  Like vagabonds, they traveled from conference to conference(WAC, MWC, CUSA, almost the Big East, then the B12).  Did I miss one?

Two daughters graduated from A&M.  Since A&M left for the SEC I don't feel the attachment.  I preferred the "old school", SWC and B12, Aggies of old.

Follow Tulane a little since an older brother graduated from TU.

Brother and a lot of relatives went to Texas.  F the Whorns.

The bottom line in all of this is I'm "debt free" from sending children to college!!!!  Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout Willis!!

I keep track of UTSA because my wife graduated from there and thats where I meant her and started my college career. Kind of liked TU growing up because I was from the Austin area. I mostly like watching or rooting for the school that shouldn't do good and that are the underdogs, but I always try to go for any Texas schools playing other P5 schools out of the state.

I grew up in Ft. Worth, so I ahve a great appreciation for where TCU has come from after the SWC split. It just amazes me how united they got withthe City of Ft. Worth to market them as the hometown team and how well the Ft Worth Star-Telegram covered them as the hometown team. Yes, they have money--so does SMU. TCU did something that I think we all look back on and realize was genius. When the big XII took Tech, Baylor, UT, and A&M and left the others behind, TCU went with SMU and Rice to the old WAC--and struggled mightily until Franchione got hired. Once he turned them around and they started moving up the rankings, they almost immediately decided that they could  use this as a way to get away from SMU and leave them pemanently in the dust by joining conferences ahead of them. Not only did that work out for them in-state, it totally increased their talent pool against their non-Texas peers in the first CUSA, then the MWC. Now, today, they parlayed that into a seat at the Big Boys Table for a while--and for their sake, I hope it keeps them there for a long time.

I have always felt that TCU gave us the blueprint to turn things completely around in Denton, but it takes money and vision, of which we have a severe shortage when it comes to college athletics.

1. UNT - Graduated, obviously

2. TCU - I went there for a year and a half, freshman and part of my soph year. before I transferred to UNT

3. Army - Dad was in the army.

I really can say that currently there are any Teams I can't stand in FBS.  Back in the day ND because they were like the Yankees to me and Miami because of the swagger factor..

FCS

I like Liberty, they are on tv on thier own network and on ch 51 here in Dallas every week.

I go to law school at A&M so I very casually follow them from time to time. Would never put them over North Texas but it is nice to watch a team that is actually competitive every once in a while. Other than that can't deny I caught some TCU fever in the Fall due to my proximity to campus, but that died out pretty quickly.

I will generally root for any Texas team in the long run but I despise A&M. My big two favorite teams are Baylor (because I'm from the Waco area) and Texas. I also like Houston for some reason, I was a Case Keenum fan.

I support UNC basketball, too.

Other than that, I do secretly support teams that I have coached on NCAA Basketball 2010 before. That list includes: Towson, Hawaii, Rutgers among others.

Your post is great and your son sounds like a great kid. Part of it reminded me of a funny story of something I witnessed. I'm also not trying to belittle your son's organization either because every organization has special folks. This is just a funny story you reminded me of.

I had two former Corp of Cadets use a line similiar to this to my friends and I once at a patio bar called Acietunas in El Paso. Three of my friends laughed as the Aggies ranted about their traditions and military service history (both were in sales, never ROTC, and never served in the military), to three West Point graduates and current (at that time) US Army Officers who all just returned from Iraq about 2 months before this conversation. Obviously three West Pointers weren't impressed with their boasting or the examples of "military" traditions. One of my friends commented it sounded like a fraternity that plays dress up and you can imagine two drunk Aggies going nuts. The two Aggies were escorted away from our table by one of their wives (who was hot) who apologized for their mouths and thanked my buddies for their service. We got a good laugh. The entire place was full of soldiers that night too. It was pretty funny and the poor guys just didn't get why the military folks were completely unimpressed with them.

I somehow hated byu when I lived in Hawaii and was disgusted they won the men's national championship in the Stan sheriff center.  But after moving to Vegas and watching them rock the mwc I started following them.  I went to a few events on their campus and fell in love with the Coogs.  Love watching them on the byu channel and root for them often.  I would get my doctorate there but there's that whole no drinking thing. Sneak sneak sneak?. It's like fouts in the old days!
