One student(Mario Ovalle with picture) stood and turned his back in protest Saturday night as Gov. Greg Abbott began speaking to the 2015 graduating class at the University of North Texas.

Over the past week the Obama's, the Bush's and many politicians in between spoke at commencements across the country and naturally out of respect, not a word of protest was made that I heard of?

But not in Denton.

What a sorry lot these few showed themselves to be, and an even worse embarrassment they are to their parents and families.

The presence of the commander-in-chief attracted a mob of proud relatives and protesters,....Outside Angel Stadium, a few dozen protesters lined the streets to voice opposition to the administration's policies on deportation and drone strikes in the Middle East. One group was draped in all black with their faces covered chanting "No border. No nation. No more deportation."

President Bush, ignoring faculty members who stood in silent protest of his commencement speech, admitted Saturday that when he left college, thinking about how to be a "model citizen" was the furthest thing from his mind.

I get a daily email with DFW news headlines up here. This is what I got yesterday, "Watch live as President Bush addresses SMU Commencement." and "Matthew McCoughney gives speech at UH graduation.". Today, I get "Protestors escorted out with little disruption as Governor Abbott speaks at UNT."

Great job of thinking about yourselves and not the school.

Surprised there were no protests at SMU, what with how liberal their campus is according to another thread in here.

The thing is, not one thing is going to change in Abbots thinking because of this. Protesting is someone's right to be a public, whining baby.

This is what i don't get about you people. You can object to the beliefs of the protesters all you want, but objecting to protesting itself is just childish.

standing up and turning your back on a speaker accomplished absolutely nothing. They were objecting because Abbot doesn't think and believe exactly like they do. Being intolerant, while claiming to be part of a diverse and inclusive Institution is not only hypocritical as hell, but it's being a baby not getting their way.

I guess this is as good a place as any for this:

http://www.wfaa.com/story/news/politics/2015/05/18/gov-abbott-signs-bill-limiting-local-control-of-oil-gas/27549449/

typical big-government, socialist texas.

ensuring those who own their own property will not have the heavy hand of local regulation deprive them of their rights

In that case, I'm gonna go buy a plot of land somewhere and open myself up an all you can eat hooker/casino/THC hookah bar open 24/7 for your hedonistic convenience.

More than 4,000 students, the university said, graduated during ceremonies on Friday and Saturday, while about 300 to 400 students were in attendance Saturday for the mass commencement.

Damn. Fewer people showed up for the mass May commencement than did for my December master's only ceremony. I don't know if you can blame a 10% attendance rate on the weather. Those numbers seem pretty telling to me.

after reading some of the comments from protesters, it's no wonder nobody takes these idiots seriously. The protesters are everyhing they claim Abbott is. These people are the biggest hypocrites and are so intolerant of anybody that isn't exactly like them. The sooner these ass hats leave campus, the better.

What can't you comprehend? I never claimed to be accepting of others views. It's my way or the highway pal.

.

I have seen you admit to trolling somewhere in another thread. That knowledge in my back pocket, I've got to admit, pretty entertaining stuff.

No, it wasn't the weather. But the weather predictions caused them to rework commencement so most of these students actually had their school's commencement earlier that day. The "mass" commencement was then entirely separate from their walking. Ask yourself this question: If you were 22 years old and had already sat through one commencement that day, and had already walked, would you want to go back that night to sit in an auditorium and listen to all that talking?

The picture in the DRC shows almost nobody in the upper sections of the bowl. Lower bowl is sparse. Looks about right for the amount of folks on the floor. I think a lot of people simply didn't attend because of the ceremonies earlier in the day.
