One student stood and turned his back in protest Saturday night as Gov. Greg Abbott began speaking to the 2015 graduating class at the University of North Texas.

He was watching as police escorted about a dozen protesters in the audience out of the UNT Coliseum. Graduates filled less than half the seats set out on the arena floor.

We are here protesting Gov. Abbott on our campus, Christy Medrano, a senior from Corsicana, said after being led outside. We believe his policies are harmful to the student body here.

“You will have many more achievements, and, inevitably, you will face many more challenges,” he told the crowd of thousands. “Those challenges don’t determine your destiny: You do. Your lives won’t be defined by how you are challenged, instead by how you respond to life’s challenges.”

“Wherever your path may lead, whatever you may do after leaving here, in the end it won’t matter if you are rich or poor,” he said. “It won’t matter where you live or what you do for a living. It won’t even matter whether you can walk.

“What will matter is the unique fingerprint you leave on this world. Ultimately, your life is measured by the fingerprints you leave behind. As you leave UNT, we look forward to watching the paths you take and the unique imprint you leave on this world.”

It's shameful that such controversial smut was presented at commencement.

And now you're just a cog in the machine that just accepts everything for what they are?

Haven't you heard? That's what you do.

When you're young, you live in the city and bleed blue. Then when you grow up, you move to the suburbs away from all those 'undesirables' in a cute little track home in a boring suburb across the street from a Chili's and vote red while making sure that Obama doesn't send the National Guard to come take your guns that you have safely locked away, which your cushy $80K salary a year office job helped you purchase.

Might just have to save this post and show it to Ryan in a year or two. Could be pretty funny for reflection.

I would expect someone who works for the alumni association to be more professional. It's cool, though. I just think it's bad business. Could explain our funding deficiencies.

Clueless as usual...might explain your confusion. I do not work for the Alumni Association. I volunteer for UNT in many many capacities including the Alumni Association. You really do need to start thinking and maybe researching a bit before you post. Pretty silly stuff. And, now for sure we need to keep those posts of yours. It is going to be so fun to re-look at them after you have been actually working for a few years and buying that "tract home" you now disdain so much...if, of course, you earn enough to actually purchase one. But, you claim to have a Master's degree (but are too embarrassed about your university to say what in it appears), so that "tract home" just might be in the cards for you. So much bravado here from you, but so little to back it up. Typical.

OK...I think it's time to move along. Enough about graduation. It's over. We can now move on to the next thing that embarrasses you about UNT. Only at North Texas.

If you want the last word...take it, but if you are of a mind to take another stab at me, at least do enough research to get your facts straight.

What got accomplished by holding up signs or turning your back on the speaker?

It showed how a segment of the students of a "diverse and inclusive" university are intolerant of views that oppose their's, thus being non-inclusive. Oh the irony.
