Every day (from now on), I'll have the blues. :(

I never did get to see him live.

The best live music memory I have is walking into the Texas International Pop Festival in 1969 and hearing B.B. King singing his breakthrough hit, "The Thrill is Gone". The guys who put that festival together in little old Denton County (Angus Wynne was one) knew how to put the right musicians on stage.

I was fortunate enough to see him perform five times. The last time was on a bill that included Etta James and Al Green. The most memorable was the Crossroads Festival in Dallas in the Cotton Bowl about 2004. Part of the show was a jam with B.B., Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Jimmie Vaughn and maybe John Mayer. You can probably still get it on DVD. His vocal performances in the last few years were not the best but he could still make Lucille sing beautifully. What a great performer he was and a real gentleman. He will be missed but not forgotten. At least one of his CDs is always in my rotation in the car. He's right in there with Etta James, Joe Cocker (all deceased), Buddy Guy, and Susan Tedeschi.

Rest in peace, B.B.
