UNT is now in the middle of the first round while a good amount of teams is already further... and they are leading!!

Ok too early to celebrate anything, but leading the field by two shots is about as good a start as one could possibly have hoped for.

Vilasana is having an awful day and will be the struck result today, but the other 4 all in the indvidual top ten right now.

The course is playing a lot tougher than some of the other regionals out there. Texas and Houston are tied for the lead at -10 in Lubbock, and TCU is leading their region a -5.

Glad to see our team get off to a solid start!

Charlotte is leading their Regional by 6 strokes and UAB was 2nd place early at theirs. Good showing for CUSA by 2/3 teams at least

Finished tied for 8th they are just 6 shots out, which is not all that much, and actually a decent showing considering UNT was seeded a decent bit lower than that.

That said, it was quite the choke job at the end there, making a tough chase out of a lead. Particularly that quadrouple bogey on the last hole by the otherwise very good Jason Roets really soured the thing. Wonder what happened there.

6 shot isn't overwhelming, but when you look at what schools are in the top 5 they have their work cut out for them. I don't really see any of those teams giving up much ground, but then again all it takes is for 2 players to play bad on the same day and it can be there for the taking.

Our 4 golfers we counted today played the final 3 holes +10. I hope that stretch doesn't come back to haunt us on Saturday.

no teams under par...

at the other regionals, charlotte leads at -13 and uab is second at -5...other course are par 72...

Thanks Keith. That does indeed explain a little.

The start today is going well again, currently -1 for the day (the course seems to play easier today than yesterday). That has us up to seventh, 5 shots behind 5th. after eight to ten holes, with most teams having played less of the course so far.

As a comparison: our Boys are playing in a group with North Carolina state (ranked 45 nationally, -2 today) and Iowa (ranked 41st nationall, +1 today).

Maybe I should stop doing updates, I seem to be a bad luck charm.

UNT is now 8th +2 for the day, Q13 overall and 9 shots behind 5th. Group mates Iowa (even fot the day) and NC State (-5 for the day) are doing better since i last looked

edit: just as I write this, Michael Cotton serves up an eagle to put UNT back to even for the day.

First player is in the club house (Alejandro Villasana who improved on his +9 from yesterday by going even today). UNTs last player has played 14 so far.

UNT is currently tied for 6th, even for the day and 5 shots behind 5th place. A good number of teams still have more holes to go than UNT.

Juan Munoz came in, bogey the last hole, to go even for the day +3 for the tournament.

UNT currently tied for 7th, but only one shot out of 5th due to ohio state losing ground.

Jason Roets came in as the last player for UNT and managed to excorcise his demons from yesterday and pared the hole he quadrouple bogeyed yesterday.

UNT finished the day +1, is +12 overall, currently alone in 6th and 2 shots behind 5th placesd Iowa. Now they can sit back and look if other teams still come back towards them. Certainly a very decent effort by the boys today, one that leaves them with a realistic shot at making the tournament tomorrow.

Other than South Florida, no team really is too far away.

Edit... dang it, they corrected the scores and UNT is one shot worse than said. Still a good effort though.
