Something is telling me 18-11 (2015-16) with a trip to the CIT. Will such a record keep Tony Benford in Denton for another year? When I wake up I might change my mind. But on this 24th day of April, we turn the damn corner.

I know that pay to play CBI/CIT is an unsavory pill to swallow, but I've been watching other programs use it as a stepping stone. Watched my other school go nothing to CBI to NIT to NCAA in four seasons. It is good exposure for recruits.

It's useful for a young nucleus of players to play to get additional practice and tourney experience. It's probably less useful for exposure.

OK. I'll buy that. Still, it can be a good thing even though nobody really considers it legit post season.

Should we go 18-11, we'll probably give Benford another year. I don't see us buying in to the CBI or CIT though. We never did for any of JJ's teams.

Those were teams with expectations of going to the Dance. The players had no interest in playing in the buy-in tournaments at that point. For one of Benford's teams, it would be considered an accomplishment to go to the CBI or CIT.

I feel like the CBI/CIT are starting to get more respect than they did in their first couple years. I really hope we've changed our policy toward playing in them from the Sun Belt days. Now that we're in CUSA it could easily take a decade or more before we make either the NIT or NCAA tourney.
