Oh, I think it's both poaching from other schools, and players selling themselves to highest bidders.
There should be both money caps and contract time restrictions. This constant free-market is what is driving coaches and fans crazy!
Collectives are not what the NIL intended. Salaries are not what the NIL intended. The intent was to allow the players to earn money off their name, image and likeness. Salaries don’t do this.
The funny thing is that most of these kids try to make a dime off of selling clothing with their name and number. Sorry, but I’m not buying a sweatshirt with a kid’s name and number when there is a 90% chance he won’t be on the team next year. It is a screwed up system thrown together to avoid a lawsuit. As I have stated before, they should either receive from the school a scholarship or a “salary” agreement but not both. Some of these kids have zero interest in attending class or know that they aren’t going to the NFL/NBA, Jason Edwards, and are trying to get as much as they can now. They will blow most of that money and have no education to fall back on. Do they even track academic progress anymore? When was the last time a young man or woman was suspended for grades?
