Even he himself, and the coaching staff, won't know that until the semester is over and grades are official. Semester ends mid May.

Maybe he just made a good test grade or something then.

I never assume any JUCO recruit will be eligible if they are fall enrollees.

i agree. d smith is already on campus and all he needs to do is pass and not drop any classes. i would assume he has been put in classes he will have no problems passing. probably some that are related to athletics.

The question is - is he missing one class or more? Would love to know this prior to two a days

smith went from a 4 year school, to a 2 year school, back to a 4 year school. 4-2-4 transfer.

he did not meet all of the requirements, so he wasnt eligible for spring. you have to average 12 per semester and a 2.0 gpa. one or maybe both were not met.

he is enrolled at UNT now, so im not sure the JUCO transfer rules apply anymore. he has already been penalized. i am just assuming here, but i would think he has to be in good standing at UNT to be eligible.

I don't believe "missing a class or two" is the problem. Missing classes would usually mean he has to finish classes to meet a requirement for something like an associates degree. Because he was a qualifier out of high school (didn't qualify at UCF but did at WKU), he did not have to earn his associates degree at Butler in order to be eligible and get accepted here. I think GPA is the issue here.

Yup. I don't think it would be too hard to get him eligible for this year. I think the bigger challenge would be keeping him eligible for the 2016 season. He has already been out of high school for 4 years, so there are only so many easy classes he can take before getting into major courses. But him being on campus really improves his chances, as opposed to him being at Butler by himself.

No way in hell DeMarcus Smith will be eligible and practice come summer 2-adays.

DaMarcus Smith on the other hand will be in camp - I'll wager 6 beers and a shot of whiskey at one of Denton's finer establishments on that.

Just playing off the misspelling. The guy we signed is Da-Marcus. He will be in camp. But everyone is spelling his name De-Marcus which is incorrect and therefore impossible for him to be in camp as he doesn't exist.

Since the semester has ended, would we have any updates on his eligibility? or does he have to pass some summer classes too before he will be eligible?

I've heard Nic Summerfield has taken him under his academic wing, that is a Very Good thing. With Nic's guidance, I have very little doubt that DS will be eligible this Fall. Maybe summer if this isn't also about Academic progression otherwise he will have to get some summer courses completed before Fall Camp.
