So right now we have 12... If TJ Taylor gets another year that makes 13.

If TJ does not get another year, we would have room for one more scholarship.

It will be interesting to see how all this plays out....

Which is why I think one of the guards in gone. I also don't see the need to have TJ back. (He has been replaced) So, I would imagine a 6-9 C/PF (with 1 ship) or Center & PF (with 2)

I didn't think that Ward was on scholarship. Reese is shaky and Taylor, given our luck, probably won't be approved for return; which is fine because he would be the tenth guard among thirteen (if Ward does have a 'ship).

We need big men. I didn't realize that Ahmed was only a junior so that could mean that we would have NO scholarships to give next year without Taylor. Hopefully, Taylor doesn't return, one of the guards leaves, and we can get two F/Cs this year. At least one of those apparently will happen since we are pursuing a 6-11 JC.

Gray Eagle - Ward is on scholarship. The classes listed are their current classifications - so next year we will have a minimum of 3 seniors if all of those guys stick around (Eaglin, Ahmed, Aniefok). Ward may also be a senior as I am not sure if he still had a red shirt available.

If we think one person is gone, I would assume it would be Eaglin, White-Pittman, Harris or Ward...Who knows with this coaching staff,

I love having so many new names that I never remember the starting line up, much less all the players on this team.

Don't you?

Transient U.

UNT90, you should know that there is an epidemic of transfers (with all programs) all around the the country. (1,200 in the last 2 years). I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you want to only blame UNT (Who remains below the average per year)

2015 VC Transfer List is now up to 460+ names: http://t.co/KYYdzknyIs

Well, considering this head coach FINALLY got a high school recruit on the floor in his third year and hits JUCOs every year, I guess I should give him a break, eh?

Just telling you how I perceive it. It seems to me this program has become a revolving door for players. I remember when I couldfollow a guy for 4 years through the program. Combs is the only name I know now that gives me that chance.

Could just be fading interest, though.

So, since the provided links (above) doesn't appear to support your claim that UNT is "Transient U", (moreso than any other program) you had to try to find something else to bash the coach.

I generally try to keep all my game programs so that I can keep up with the rosters year to year. It might help you as well. Don't think I will find a roster with all 4 year players though.

without really taking sides in this little cat-fight...especially given my stances of both wanting to liberalize transfers and also really not like Benford...perhaps at the very least the perception of Transient U here is based less on the national average and more on what we had here previously.

by my very unofficial count, in JJ's 11 seasons we had 12 scholarship players leave the program before their eligibility was up (Miller, Erskin, Allen, Masters, Roniger, Thomas, Harris, Sturns, Edwards, Brown, Jackson, Mangrum*...asterisk for Mangrum as he had graduated and used the grad school transfer rule to leave)

in Benford's 3 seasons we've had 9 (Mitchell*...asterisk for obvious reason, Robinson, Jones, Norris, Hardwick, Overlander, Coleman, Wesley, Gaines.

when you go from losing one a season to three, with little payoff or indication of improvement in recruiting it does create the perception of a high-turnover program run by a coach seemingly just throwing darts at a Rivals.com dartboard

All? No, but not the kind of churn seen under Benford. Transfers happen, but what's been going on here is rediculous and not anything like what we've seen for quite a few years before Benford's arrival.

I think Benford's turnover is more of the norm than unusual. Jones was very unique in that he was very good in picking players who could not only play but stay out of trouble. Most of his transfers were players who had been on the team multiple years without significant contribution.

I having paid much attention to CUSA, but in the Belt there was massive turnover with most teams. They either didn't renew ships for non-performers or lost better players to more successful programs, but it seems that most teams added 5 or 6 new players every year.

We still already have a scholarship remaining and of course Ward was on scholarship. How can Reese be shaky when we have not even seen him play? We lost two post players and have already signed one in Brice. We will get a center with our last scholarships and replace every position. Are we guard heavy yes, but I think the better question is will be be better with the new guys coming in. Edited by Andrew

Tony Benford is the current head coach at UNT at a time when college transfers are rising significantly every year, (as pointed out in the article(s). It only stand to reason that there will be more under his watch than JJ's or coaches before him. This is based on fact, rather than whether a person likes him or not. It is also why today's coaches are calling it an epidemic.

"Research by the NCAA shows that the number of transfers from two-year/junior college schools into Division I has remained steady over the last 10 years or so, hovering between roughly 15 percent and 17 percent of all Division I players.

The real movement, though, is within Division I.

According to STATS, the number of transfers from one Division I school to another jumped from 259 to 325 from 2012-13 to 2013-14 alone. That number could go much higher once this year's transfers are tallied." The number has averaged 600 for the past 2 season and could exceed that in 2015.

A little off subject, but why don't we have players' names on the back of jerseys? With the constant turnover, it would be good to see their names ...

This is correct and the point I was making. I guess Cooley could make the claim that we are finally doing it like the big boys in the Big East (Marquette) or the SEC (Kentucky).

Except, of course, we have gotten much worse at basketball in the process.

Maybe Cooley likes the constant movement of players in and out of this program. It probably doesn't effect him as much because he knows the JUCOs much better than I ever will.

You have to attend games to get the game programs.

UNT 90 might want to check out what's happening at K State these days as an example.

I know.

About 2k less of us are these days.

But keep on blaming players, because that will certainly bring us back...

Maybe we will get together for a beer at the Pit in 2016. You know, after the inevitable chamge is made and there is some form of hope for this program again. I'm sure you will have something negative to say about Benford at that time...

Why would anybody need to say something negative about Benford? What does it accomplish? What would it accomplish if he weren't here? There is an old saying, "praise in public, criticize in private". This is public, and sometimes in public it is just better to say nothing. I learned this the hard way with the Darrel Dickey days.

Unfortunately no. Too many Spring things to do the first day back from a little vacation.

Hopefully I won't miss anything, as the starting QB won't be here till summer camp.

Hopefully...

Pure BS....but you go ahead and keep absolving those most important for their own actions on and off the court. K State coach seems to feel the same way. Personal responsibility for players seems a foreign concept to you. But, you know "only at Nirth Texas", right...fee, maybe not so much it seems. But, you go ahead and keep sticking your head firmly in the sand.

Personal responsibility for coaches and ADs seem to be a foreign concept for you.

Until they are gone, anyway...

Nope...wrong again, but since you are such a one trick pony these days, no use even discussing it with you.

See Mike Peterson for example. But, you dismiss that as he got fired. Keep that head buried directly in the sand and never ever expect those responsible for actually playing to be accountable for anything. It's that attitude that creates the spoiled, look at me, athlete we see too much of these days.
