I'm reserving my opinion on McNulty until Spring Game. I still think that he would excel in a more up-tempo quick snap modern offense, and from all accounts they're moving to a more modern offense. I'll believe it when I see it though.

This negative stuff about McNulty is very similar to Thompson, hope it turns out the same way.

We would all, coaches more than anyone, like to have better QB play; but you can't wish someone into being better. It is to McNulty's credit that he is apparently way ahead in the QB race.

I guess that depends on if we have the defense we had that year.

Why do I say this? Because I believe our defense put us in favorable positions all year long. If we don't have that, I am not sure how our offense will do.

They couldn't put a player on the 2 deep without even having him in spring ball. D. Smith will push for the starting job in the fall and I am certain of that. If the staff thinks McNulty is the better QB going into Dallas then that's on them. Mac could be putting his head on a platter with that decision and I'm sure he knows that. Let's enjoy the development of other players in the spring game and hope it's an injury free game. Fall camp will take care of itself.

If you are insinuating that he could be fired because of this, the calendar says its 2015, which is Year 2 of Caoch Mac's 5-year deal. If this was 2017, you might be onto something. But right now, if Mac's head is on a platter, its gonna sit there and rot for another two years, bare minimum. I am 100% convinced that Mac will get the last year of that contract, assuming it doesn't get extended before then again, by announcing that he will retire in 2018. Could you imagine how happy the BOR would be to not have to pay two coaches at the same time?

Thhink for a moment how incredible it is that Andrew McNulty is the #1 QB at a FBS school...not saying he shouldn't be the number one QB with what we have currently on the roster, but how amazing it is that out of all the candidates for that position, he is the clear choice as the best QB option in our coaches' eyes.

Just goes to show that we should all pick our parents' friends wisely.

I'm not saying he will be fired because I know we have a joke of an athletic department. Whet I am saying is that failure in this year will be failure at North Texas for Dan McCarney. His legacy will be tarnished as being a mediocre coach at an underwhelming P5 program and a confirmed washed up coach that failed to put it together at North Texas. He will (privately) put it on cruise control and sail through his contract which will set us back another 4-5 years because of the incompetence in the athletic department. Recruiting his last couple of years will tank and whoever comes in to takeover will fail for at least another 2-3 years, if not entirely because of this fiasco. We don't cut off dead skin here, we let it turn into gangrene until the limb falls off because we are poor or hesitant and/or both. This scenario is the proverbial head on platter I am referring to. The scenario that North Texas football can not afford to let happen or sit back and allow to happen. But we will, because of deadly incompetence. We are, in a sense, sanctioning ourselves with another failure of a season.

Oh, and RV, will still be employed in the midst of all this.

"Josh Greer appears to have taken the lead at backup QB", I am at a loss for words.....

This is what comes to mind:

Mcnulty is legitimately our best option. He's not starting because of any other reason than that. But that's what our problem is. Andrew Mcnulty is head and shoulders above the rest of our competition. And I'm someone who thinks pretty highly (comparably speaking). The rest of our guys have not been able to pass anyone up, or even push Mcnulty. The real problem is once you get past Mcnulty. Edited by BillySee58

Thank you for stating the obvious in contrast to the conspiracy theorists.

Our problem is not McNulty, but the fact that his competition has just not stepped up to the level needed.

Way back in the dayswhen I was a child going to Memorial Stadium in Austin, UT had a QB named

Mike Cotton who was about as mediocre as you could expect for that level.....but he didn't make

mistakes and played within his limits and gave the Horns several winning seasons.

Even under Royal, they would go with a QB that at least would give his teammates a chance to win a

game by not screwing up big time.

Yes, I wish we had a "star", but unless Smith can walk on water, I do not see much other option this year.

Yes, and I would even argue that the competition not stepping up is not as big an issue as the potential fact that we haven't brought in the QBs we need to have a legitimate D1-level QB competition.

In my opinion, the real problem is that Andrew McNulty is your starting QB because not another one out of 8 on the roster is better, according to his coaches. But when you run an offense that Woody Hayes thinks is just the cats' meow, while the entire state you recruit basically plays in a glorified 7-on-7 offenses and have QBs that throw 50 times a game, you are setting yourself up to have your best QB be Andrew McNulty.

I realize that we have what we have, but does anyone really think that McNulty would be the starting QB (or even 2nd string) at any other FBS school had he not come here? I mean really? Not meaning to seriously bash the guy or get too much into the "nepotism" thing, but just trying to be real. Hope his experience pays off this year and he turns out to be our modern day Lance Mcllhenny.

FIU, any of the Michigans in the MAC, possibly a couple garbage MWC teams. I'm not standing up for the dude at all, but to say he is the worst QB in the entire FBS might be a little misleading.

But we have an OC and QB Coach that sent Phillip Rivers to the NFL! Did he forget how to develop talent? Things that make you go hmmm!

If there's 8 guys in the box, I'd love to see MSmith, Goree, Rutherford, Harris, Kidsy, Thompson go 1 on 1.

Let McNulty throw down seams or against man coverage and we can stay afloat. Go to the horizontal passing game, or give him too many reads and we're cooked.

Name one place Andrew McNUlty would be the starter.

I can't...

Lol... Funny that we are actually arguing whether or not we have the worst starting QB in FBS. Also funny that our alleged worst starting QB in FBS is head and shoulders better than his competition on the roster. How does Mike Canales still have a job?

As much as I drooped when I saw that...I must admit, the highly-touted new guys on D-Line and at WR seem, by way of the depth chart, to be as advertised. If this is in fact the case, then I'm not as worried about who the QB will be. If we have enough great WRs that can catch anything thrown anywhere near them, and if the rising RBs continue to be as good as they seemed to be getting over the last couple of seasons...then the only thing on offense that worries me is whether Andy will make the right choices and at least drive the bus home. As he's pretty solid in terms of what gets the coaches all happy (playbook, less turnovers, etc.), then I'm not as worried, knowing that he has guys that look like they'll be a decent support network on offense. But I'll wait until September before I decide whether to actually let myself get excited.

That is the question.

I'm quite certain the answer is that he was given a 2 year contract after the HOD bowl.

And you know how we hate to buy out contracts.
