A University of North Texas student was found dead Saturday morning in her off-campus apartment, Denton police said.

The 21-year-old student, whose identity had not been released, was found around 11:30 a.m. in her room at the Castle Rock apartments in the 1500 block of Meadow Street.

Officer Shane Kaizer, a police spokesman, said the student was found after her roommate alerted the apartment manager about a bad odor coming from the womans room.

Yeah. The new ownership has had an enormous amount of issues to deal with since acquiring the complex. They also painted it an awful color blue. Not a pretty sight out my window.

Im no forensic scientist but I feel like it takes a bit for a body to start stinking up an apartment. How can you be so dislocated from your roommate you don't notice anything is amiss until you smell an odor?

That place has always been a trash hole. Denton PD came out before it opened and flat out told the management, this place will be trouble. The VERY FIRST weekend it was open, there were gunshots around the corner from me, right outside of Building 6. My roommate (ex air force) and I found approximately 15-20 she'll casings. The management gave us permission to start a neighborhood watch, then came back and said the shots were fired behind the property, and the casings flew over the fence approximately 20 feet. Idiots.

When you have apartments like this where you often have no choice of who your roommates are and aren't forced to deal with them like you are in a dorm, where you also often don't have a choice of roommate. Many places like this have several bedrooms per apartment, each with their own bathrooms and only share a living room which is usually furnished and kitchen. So depending on your or their personality and schedule, someone could go a very long time without having any interaction with a roommate.

I knew people who lived in some of those apartment complexes and they had problems with roommates who never took out their trash and stank up the place, or were lazy and let their pets just crap in their rooms, or let people stay long-term at the apartment and sleep in the living room without asking anyone else. Lots of stories about horrible crap people did or experienced at some of those types of apartment complexes.

Usually takes about 48-72 hours. But if it's Summer time and no air conditioning inside the house, it takes less.

And you can never describe what a decomposing body smells like. Nothing you have ever smelled in your life.
