That's the first mention I've heard that we will be primarily running a spread.

Just remember that the same thing was said last year and the year before.

Simply coach speak. Telling you what you want to hear.

Coach speak or not, the re-development of the OL is absolutely vital to our team this year. Without that happening all this discussion about QB's is just pretty irrelevant. Without a resurrected OL, we had better limit our QB choices to someone who can run a 4.4 or 4.5 forty.

Really? I don't remember hearing anything about going to a spread in 2014 or 2013. Do you have a link?

They couched it then as "opening up the offense." Im sure there is a thread or even a blog post for Vito that contains quotes.

"Opening up the offense" is definitely couched. That could mean all kinds of things, from adding zone read and designed QB runs, to adding more trick plays, to throwing the ball more. But saying they're going to the spread is pretty specific.

I think what you will see is the spread if Smith wins the job and the same old 1 yard and a cloud of dust if he doesn't.

If there is any truth to us going to the spread, I think it means that tge coaches expect Smith to start.

I think the spread could work to McNulty's advantages too: Quick, short passes... Necessity for a somewhat mobile QB....

More importantly, *and this is just pure conjecture* I think the coaches like the WR corps with the addition of the Carthage boys to where they want to utilize them more.

It could be that with the OL that was supposed to be so dominant that the coaches felt like their best chance was to bulldoze people. They may now feel like they need to go toward more pass oriented approach, regardless of QB.

Time will tell.
