MGB: Tuesday practice notes and a sad news item

an uptempo/quick pass offense is a bad idea for certain QB's who have a rather "deliberate" throwing motion. It's more ideal for McNulty, Williams, and Means. It would be perfect for Shanbour.............

The best example of a quick passing game (three steps and throw) I ever saw was our game against Tulsa in 1982. It was (mostly) the Rusty Hill to Marvin Walker show. Walker had 22 receptions in that game. Hill was 61 for 42. Once again Walker had 22 of those. We eventually lost 38 to 20, but for most of that game Tulsa was really sweating. Based on our respective records, we should have lost something like 40-0.

I'm reminded of our game at Kansas State a few years ago. DT was hot that day and completed a ton of short passes (25 of 28) to keep possession of the ball and move down field. The issue is he only threw for 208 total yards. He was able to do that because KSU played a very conservative defensive game plan and refused to give up any deep passes.

I don't know if short passes or deep routes really matter....UNT quarterbacks tend to stare down a receiver and basically scream "Hey Defense, I'm throwing to this guy over here!!"

Always been a fan of take what the defense gives you. If people are going to load the box against us well then take advantage of them over the top. If people chose to play us conservatively then get the ball out quickly to the play makers and let them do their thing.

I tried on a desktop, but not sure how "live" it actually was. It was broken up into short segments, and the video was sideways. Became disinterested pretty quick.

All the defense has to do is look for the receiver with the big circle drawn around him.
