And a new AD isn't going to make Benford or any of the other coaches we have instantly better. Sure the new AD could go and fire as many coaches as he/she wants but it will cost the school quite a bit of money. Perhaps at the expense of facility upgrades and the addition of baseball for a couple years but how can we miss something (baseball) we've never had?

Excuses, excuses, excuses.

There is absolutely nothing that says the next person who will be the AD will be any better at making hiring decision then RV. You can hope for it all you want though. Those that want RV dismissed at all costs are living in a dream world if you think suddenly all our ills will be cured. Chances are it would take several years until we might see any payoff (more wins, increased ticket sales and donations, etc) on new leadership at the top of the athletic department.

People on this board talk about RV like he makes $40k a year. He makes hundreds of thousands of dollars, and deals with a fanbase that doesn't demand results, because who knows if anyone could do the job any better than he could. Like an entire fanbase made up of people who are afraid to dump the person they settled for, because who knows if someone else will like us.

If we were to get a new AD I hope the fans on this message board have the patience to give the new guy/girl the time to "right the ship," so to speak.

Thats just it though, a new AD is at least going to put his fingerprints on the program. We are at a dead stand still right now. We are going nowhere fast in terms of production. Great, we have a new stadium. Great, renovations may/may not happen to the pit. Great, RV and Co turned a basket weaving factory into a basketball practice facility. This is all great, but we are not winning and that trumps all of those "greats." To say a new AD would or wouldn't be better for this university is naive on both accounts, bc we don't know and won't know until it happens. But looking at our current stance with our 14 years and counting standing AD that is a chance I am willing to take. It's time to be taken into a new direction. If the direction turns out to be bad then we are in reality right where we are right now. And to me, it's not that big of a chance or risk.

Many are howling about replacing HC's because they are not succeeding; but the person responsible for the whole program for some reason is above replacement.

It is, as if many believe; none of the good things would have ever happened under other leadership.

Sure there is some risk that a new AD may not be better; but RV, IMO has not sit the bar very high.

OK--I've tried to look at this everyway imaginable to figure out how we could be this low for fundraising. Is it the losing in the revenue sports that has us beaten down? Is it just low effort by RV and his staff? Is it the i-aa fiasco that still haunts us because most of our alumni that are between the ages of 45 and 65 couldn't give a rip about UNT in almost any way?

Its all of it...and its all on the BOR and administration. They created this culture, give lip serivce to the few that care about sports here just to keep their money flowing in, and then go back to taking care of their pet projects and areas within the university. Lee Jackson--not fired for being over an accounting fiasco that would get anyone else fired at another school--instead gets extended. RV gets 14+ years to lead an athletic department that somehow gets credit for opening up tailgating for football games, completely ignoring his stellar record for the sports anyone left still even cares about, as well as his scheduling and his abysmal hiring record--anywhere else he is long gone, but here, he gets extended. Todd Dodge and Tony Benford have "coached" their teams to records of achievement so below acceptable in three years that both would have been canned anywhere else--here, they get a 4th year--its just too expensinve to buy out an extra year of $300k for our university...I guess that's true when you have a giant alumni base and community to draw from and you raise $750k while your peers are raising millions.

It doesn't change here unless the BOR and administration change directions completely. Until known costs gets replaced by lost "opportunity" costs as the ONLY thing that matters to these people, sports here will always just flail aimlessly. It takes money, it takes athletic leadership, it takes a commitment to winning...none of which has ever been in place or allowed to be in place in Denton for UNT Athletics. Ever.
