Quarterbacks struggle in practice

UNIVERSITY PARK – Interceptions, bad reads and missed receivers were the themes from the offensive side of practice Wednesday. Freshman starting quarterback Chris Phillips and sophomore backup Tate Wallis struggled with the first-team offense.

At one point, Wallis threw a pass straight to a scout team defensive back for an interception. He also missed a wide-open receiver and threw to a covered one. Phillips had one pass bounce off a receiver that was intercepted, and another pass was deflected by a defensive lineman and intercepted.

The play was so bad that near the end of practice, the offensive coaches called the first- and second-team offenses together for a chat near midfield.

"Erratic," SMU coach Phil Bennett said of his quarterbacks' play. "A hard day."

Frustration shows as players tussle

UNIVERSITY PARK – There were numerous fights in practice Wednesday. Senior offensive lineman Sterling Harris pinned junior defensive end Clay Glockzin to the ground after one play was over. Transfer cornerback Charles Akinyemi, who plays on the scout team, got into it with a receiver.

Junior defensive tackle Allan Adami said it was good to see the scout team players show some enthusiasm.

"A little frustration," Adami said. "It's going to happen during a season, especially with the scout team over the last eight weeks. It was nice to see a little attitude."

Be careful and tread lightly on Grey Eagle's beloved 'Nags. The "undisclosed fee" they paid to C-USA for the invite shows what SMUUUU is really famous for--- whether its big bucks to the league or the best team money can buy the big cigars with the big $$$ still drive the Hoss!!!

The SMU fans have blasted Tate Wallis on their board. Some have said he has no athletic ability. Do you remember when Dickey was castigated on this board by people who were mad when Tate signed with SMU instead of coming to UNT.

What a buncha losers.

Remember when their president of their board of regents, one Bill Clements, when asked about blatantly lying to the NCAA investigators, retorted, "I didn't see a Bible in the room".

I am usually a compassionate person, but I just can't muster any sympathy for them.

And why shouldn't they show enthusiasm, they could actually see some play time.
