our issues with giving up big pass plays the last two years has been the post pattern. they catch us with no safety and thats a hard cover for a corner if you dont line up inside. technique issue.

line up inside. if you are outside and he posts, its over with no safety. the only way to fix it is have a

defense good enough to where our safeties dont have to come up and support the run and short passes.

indiana obviously knew the post could kill us because of joseph, but then uab must have seen the indiana film and attacked the same thing.

It's a good point, but if they line up inside (and they're split wide), you've got to be able to cover the 9 route too.

i think that is why we line up so far off the wr initially. we pretty much give a look that we are not getting beat deep with the fade or fly route. we give the impression that deep outside will be covered.

no one is throwing a post pattern knowing a safety is playing the center of the field. its an easy pick. you look for that post when you know that corner has one on one coverage and that safety wont be there.

it will be interesting to see how cosh tweaks the defense. our safeties and corners have been a part of helping stop the run. we are still in need of speed at safety. i thought warner or zed evans would be contributors last year, but neither one made it.

if our front 7, (not just the DTs) could stop the run and the short stuff, our safeties wouldnt have to cheat up so much and our corners could play more aggressive. even in 2013, when we had z orr and akunne, we still relied on our corners and safties to help in run support. we need some DEs that can cause some disruption.

They put Buyer on an island last year, he's not that type of back. The coaching staff exploited his weakness, he cant cover one on one. Buyers was also playing off 10 yards in 2013 but they threw more screen passes against him. Once teams figured out to run post and fade routes, it was over. He's more of a nickelback.
