Was he again just riffing? Telling people what they want to here?

If you will remember, RV made this seemingly off the cuff statement on a podcast with Harry last season.

Since then we have heard not one word further.

In this dead period, I think this would be an excellent question for Brett Vito to ask RV.

Just posted so some with convenient memories can't claim later that RV never made this comment.

Yet you don't actually quote him or provide a link to the podcast where he said it, so not sure how this thread accomplishes anything.

I know some old timers on here aren't Twitter savy, but President Smastrek really seems to be active on Twitter... Wonder if we can get after him some on there and apply our feelings/desires for the program to bring in some teams and less body bag games?? Question, no answer.

Not that it matters, but he said it. I was listening live when he did. Edited by Ben Gooding

There are only 2 podcasts that on which RV was a guest this past football season. If you doubt that it was said, I suggest you re-listen. Lots of people who post on here heard it come from his very lips.

Not gonna do the work for you.

You want to remind everyone later that he said something, so you created a thread with no actual proof that he said it. I never said he didn't say it, but it is just pointless to think this thread proves anything.

It's still fresh in everyone's mind as young Ben Gooding illustrates. You'll see another entry in this thread around the start of the football season, another entry at the end of football season, and so in until this supposed P5 one and one is announced.

Convenient.

I'll feel better when there is official word, not just the title of the of an REO Speedwagon song.

It's not "convenient"...it is a fact! I actually saw the email from the Purdue AD replying that he would be happy to come to Denton, BUT that the earliest he could get the team there was many years out. I do not recall the exact year he stated but it was many years out.

All the recent realignments and the new National Championship playoff system has gummed up scheduling for a lot of schools...P5's being no exception.

Believe it...don't believe it...matters not...it is what it is in the case of Purdue.

Who wouldn't be excited about that?

Well them move on away from Purdue and find someone else to fill the 2017(?) home game with a beatable P5. Or lock up Purdue in 2020 while still trying to find someone for 2017. It's not rocket science.

I must say 2020 is pretty pathetic. Are we going to keep playing Portland State or McNeese type teams? It's garbage. We need to play teams like New Mexico, Wyoming, or Houston caliber teams if we aren't going to get any P5 games other than the yearly bodybag game. I applaud them on the Army and SMU series but more work needs to get done.

So, I pose this question to all the GMG.com viewers out there:

Does confirmation from KRAM that RV actually emailed and got a not right now from Purdue mean RV was "working on" a one and one with a P5?

It sounds like the Purdue AD had any easy out to politely let RV down.

As long as we play a body bag game, we will always have to play an FCS team as a home game because other FBS teams want a 1-1. SMU and Army will be two home and homes for awhile but we do need a third one, preferably with a MWC or AAC team. That needs to start in 2017 and never play two P5 teams in a year unless one has a return game. If it has to be a Sun Belt team make it Louisiana, Arkansas State or Texas State only.

Hey Mike, which Pudwagon song were you talking about? I'm wracking my brain here. Quoner mentioned Keep Pushin', but I can't believe that's it.

We can't have 3 home and homes. Not in the same seasons. As long as we are insistent on playing a body-bag game. That will lead to 5 home games. Here's how.

Scenario A:

Year 1 non-conference schedule

- Away game at P5 team, bodybag game

- Home game against home-and-home opponent 1

- Away game against home-and-home opponent 2

- Home game against home-and-home opponent 3

= 2 nonconference home games and 4 conference home games for a total of 6 home games

Year 2

- Away game at P5 team, bodybag game

- Away game against home-and-home opponent 1

- Home game against home-and-home opponent 2

- Away game against home-and-home opponent 3

= 1 nonconference home game and 4 conference home games for a total of 5 home games.

Scenario B:

Flip year 1 and year 2. Still going to have a 5-game home season, just in season 1 instead of season 2.

That Army series goes through 2021, and the SMU series goes even longer than that. I've said this before, but as long as those two series are occurring, we can't get another home and home series occurring in the same seasons without having another 5 home game season. As long as we're still playing a bodybag game every year, which RV says we are. That's why our 4th nonconference game, it appears, will be a bought home game against FCS opponent every year. Which is not a bad thing at all.

I've said this before, but for those who want a P5 team to come to Apogee before the Army series is over, the game (series) that is preventing that from happening is not Incarnate Word, Liberty, ACU, or any other FCS school we bring in. It's Army. In and of itself, Army is not a bad series. But I'd rather have a Purdue, Colorado, Kansas, etc. Unless you want another 5 home game season, we do not have room for another home and home series until at least 2021. Unless we stop doing these bodybag games, which I don't think is going to happen.
